The Wheel Of Consent concept is worth a deep dive for any professional bodyworker, and indeed it can also be a useful part of everyday life. The subject of knowing what *you* want can be very difficult for some, and *asking* for what you want can be harder still. Look up the 3 minute game with Dr Betty Martin on youTube - it's an exercise I do sometimes with my clients and it can be quite a lot of fun, and an eye-opener 🌺

As we are soon to enter the Christmas and the New Year season it is worth reflecting on the past year and it's frenetic pace. Last year we thought we would have a nice quiet Christmas all to ourselves - WRONG 😆. A phone call two weeks before Christmas day and it all started: we had people staying on and off over many months in 2024, we went to Tassie and we also went to NZ to meet up with friends - aaaaand we also went to Hawaii for Ernestine to complete her Level 4 Lomi Lomi qualifications, and me to do a repeat (always worth doing, and encouraged by our Kumu (Teacher) Dawn Charlton). We had a wonderful time there doing a deep dive into Hawaiian culture and made some good friends amongst the ohana/whānau (family). I particularly came away with a greater sense of connection to my country (NZ) and the Maori people I grew up with - a lot to think about, particularly the deep connection between the Māori and Hawai'ian peoples, and their cultural spread in the Pacific over many centuries.

And to top it off Ernestine and I were invited by the team at the Kono Kollective (Loganhome, near Brisbane) to work as Lomi Lomi Massage Therapists at the Pan Pacific Masters' Games at the Gold Coast - specifically we looked after the softball teams. That was a lot of fun, and a big learning curve as we patched up players who had pulled hammies, quads, pitching arms, muscles in their shoulders and backs, strained calf muscles... We had 169 clients total with 6 Lomi Lomi therapists and 4 beds (we rotated a few times) - Ernestine and myself saw 87 clients over 9 days... after which we ourselves received a well deserved Lomi from Gel and Chrissy at Kono Kollective 💕🌺

As always, we have tried to keep Lomi Lomi session prices down as much as we can, for as long as possible so that what we offer is as accessible to as many people as possible - it's hard to do that with the sharp increases in the cost of living. We know that we are a little below average in what we charge (and a lot lower than in the big cities) and we are able to do that as we have few overheads (no real infrastructure costs, no rental costs). We do try and keep the cash economy going as well - so cash is real good if you can pay that way.

If you haven't received a Lomi Lomi massage before, try it. I can honestly say hand on heart after many many years of trying all sorts of different modalities that it is one of the most complete styles of massage, multi-layered, holistic, all encompassing. We’re doing half hour massages, people coming in with all sorts of strains that need fixing before the next game. Quads, hammies, calves from lunging when pitching; shoulders, arms. And funnily enough, sciatica sitting on those long flights - people from Perth, Darwin, PNG, Auckland…

Congratulations to Ernestine in gaining her Level 4 "Trained In Hawaii" certificate in Traditional Old Style Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage. It was an intense week of workshops and training, making new connections and an introduction into Polynesian culture and history - very interesting stuff. Ernestine's contribution to our Lomi Lomi practice will greatly enhance what we do in our studio.

Congratulations to each of you for reaching this significant milestone in your Traditional Old Style Lomi Lomi training. Your journey through this sacred practice has not only deepened your understanding of the physical techniques but has also nurtured your spiritual connection to Lomi Lomi and Hawaii. We were blessed to take 33 students of our ‘Ohana on this extraordinary journey to the birthplace of our Lomi Lomi lineage. Well what year it's been, culminating in what was supposed to be a quiet festive season but turned out to be anything but, with a stream of people visiting and doggies coming to stay - currently we have a three legged American staffie gracing our lounge (she lost the leg to cancer), she's the biggest sook, always wants to know what you're doing and gives the sloppiest kisses 💋 😁.

News from last year: in March 2023 I undertook an intense 5 day Like A Pro workshop in NZ run by Dr Betty Martin (of 'The Wheel of Consent') as part of my professional development. I have a huge passion about how consent works, particularly when it comes to touch. But that's a big subject, something I'll talk all day about once I get started! 😁.

As part of continuous learning and maintaining our connection with the Lomi Lomi community we do repeat workshops with our teacher Kumu Dawn Charlton at https://www.learnlomilomi.com.au. There is always something more to learn and it's a good way to brush up on one's technique. Last December while Ernestine completed her Level 3 I also repeated that same workshop. It was very invigorating and inspiring - and fun.

Trigger point therapy is a major part of a Traditional Old Style Hawaiian Massage practice and is becoming a central part of what we do at Elemental Lomi Lomi - and together with the Lomi Lomi massage it is a very effective method of reducing, even eliminating pain in the body. As well as myself Ernestine is now also able to offer trigger point therapy.

And 4 handed massage - what can we say - if you have never experienced it, try it - 4 hands moving over your body at the same time. The cost is approximately double, but the time taken is half (so essentially the cost is the same) but the sensations can be quite different, more sensuous and even fun.

At this moment we don't offer couple's massage, but that is something that may come in the future.
