A special thank you to our resident Wendy, who volunteered to say a very beautiful speech at our Anzac Day Service.
We listened to her interesting stories of her memories visiting the Gallipoli Peninsula (now Gelibolu) and her experience physically seeing Anzac Cove. She shared a very moving memorial piece with us from her time at Gallipoli, erected by Ataturk in 1934 after the war finished -
โTo those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives. You are now living in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side. Here in this country of ours, you the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries. Wipe away your tears. Your sons are now living in our bosom. And are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land, they have become our sons as well.โ
We also thank our Resident Judy who provided us with a photograph of her late Father who served in WW1. We reflect on that service and recognise more than a hundred thousand Australian service men and women who have lost their lives in our countryโs name. We honour the values that have been invested by the original Anzacs - loyalty, selflessness and courage.
