"Those can include a clear surgical drape that allows mothers to see the actual birth of the baby and witness their first breath, immediate skin-to-skin contact for baby and mom, and the presence of a professionally trained birth attendant, or doula."

Clear surgical drapes are part of a trend toward "family-centered cesarean sections" — sometimes called "gentle cesareans" — so that the experience is less like surgery and more like a vaginal birth.

Women are left 'holding the baby' after , spending weeks, months or even years of their lives asking all the tough questions about why their birth played out as it did and what they could have done differently.
But isn't it the health care professionals who should be asking themselves the tough questions about what they could have done to prevent this woman's trauma? It's been too long that we've happily let the woman carry that weight.

Welcome to the Positive Birth Movement

Welcome to the Positive Birth Movement, and to our group, Positive Birth Movement Eastern Suburbs.

We are a grassroots movement, spreading positivity about childbirth via a global network of hundreds of free Positive Birth groups, linked up by social media.

We believe that every woman deserves a positive birth. We think a positive birth is one in which a woman has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, and feels in control, powerful and respected. We are a woman­ centred movement and we respect all women’s human rights to choose where and how they have their baby.

We think you can birth with positivity in hospital or at home, with or without medical intervention. You can have a positive caesarean, or a positive home water birth. Positive Birth is about approaching birth realistically, having genuine choice, and feeling empowered by your experience.
