Every person we support brings with them a unique story shaped by culture, language, belief, and lived experience.
Cultural awareness means understanding and respecting these differences, not just at a surface level, but in ways that actually influence how we support, communicate, and build trust.
It’s knowing that:
1. Family structures, gender roles, communication styles, and views on independence can all be influenced by culture.
2. Small gestures, greetings, or even dietary needs might carry deep meaning.
3. Mental health, disability, and care can be understood and experienced differently across cultures.
This helps deliver support that feels safe, familiar, and deeply respectful of who they are and how they live.
