Things in my bag that just make sense as a paediatric speechie 👜
From mirrors for visual feedback, to whiteboards for building words and sentences, to bubbles for engagement and turn-taking… every item has a purpose.
These simple tools help children understand what their mouth is doing, practise new skills, stay motivated, and build confidence in their communication.
And while sessions are important, what happens at home matters just as much. Practice sheets and small, consistent moments of practice can make a big difference.
Sometimes it’s not about fancy resources, it’s about using the right tools in the right way 💬
What would be in your speechie bag?

Strong narrative skills help children share ideas, retell events, understand stories and succeed at school.
You can build narrative skills at home by:
• Talking about your child’s day in order (first, then, last)
• Using photos to help them remember what happened
• Reading stories together and talking about who, where and what went wrong
• Modelling simple stories about everyday activities
Narrative skills support friendships, vocabulary growth and the move from talking to writing.
If your child finds it hard to retell events or stories clearly, our speech pathologists at Smart Talk are here to help.

Come take a little look inside our Currambine waiting room.
It's a calm, welcoming space designed to help children feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
We know for some children transitions can be tricky, so creating a safe and predictable space is an important part of supporting communication and regulation.
We can’t wait to welcome you in.
