During this September-October period, many families are preparing their children for school transitions in 2026. This is often a time when concerns about development, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing become more visible. Parents commonly raise questions such as:
• “Is my child’s development on track for their age?”
• “Why is my child struggling with attention, behaviour, or social skills?”
• “Are their challenges part of a developmental stage, or should we be considering ADHD, ASD, or a learning disorder?”
If you have asked these questions or voiced these concerns, make an appointment with one of our GPs to discuss these issues and get referral to specialised practitioners.

It’s NAIDOC Week and we are celebrating with our First Nations team members, patients and communities their rich history, diverse cultures and many achievements. Ochre has been very involved with First Nations communities since we were founded in Bourke over 20 years ago. Today, through our medical centres, we provide care to over 12,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, through our recruitment teams we place locum doctors into Aboriginal Medical Services and other health facilities caring for First Nations communities around the country, and we are proud ongoing sponsors of the Australian Federation of Medical Women “Purple Bush Leaves Medicine Bursaries” which provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with financial support to further their medical careers. After some wonderful NAIDOC events last year, including at our Oakey practice in Queensland (main picture), our program this year culminates with our Walgett practice in Western NSW which on Friday will be hosting a community celebration in partnership with the Western NSW Local Health District. This is open to everybody in the area and will including a smoking ceremony, a welcome to country and dancing.

It's JulEYE! 👀👁
That's right, it is National Eye Care Month!

Protecting our eyes isn’t hard, remember these simple tips and you’ll have good vision for life;
- Have regular eye examinations: Vision-threatening eye diseases are more easily and successfully treated if diagnosed early. Early detection now will prevent vision loss later.
- Eat right for good sight: What we eat affects our bodies in both good and bad ways… and this directly impacts our eyes as well. A healthy diet full of anti-oxidants, leafy greens and omega-3s will decrease your risk of developing eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration later in life.
- Wear your sunglasses: As we all know, UV radiation can be very harmful. Over time, excessive UV exposure without the right protection can cause serious or permanent eye damage such as cataracts, pterygium, and skin cancer of the eyelids.
- Wear your safety spectacles: 30% of all eye injuries occur in the domestic setting. These can arise from performing DIY projects, car repairs and gardening. All of these injuries can simply be prevented by wearing appropriate eye protection.
- Stop smoking: It is commonly known that smoking causes heart disease and lung cancer but it can also lead to vision loss. Studies show smoking increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and dry eye syndrome.
Prevention and early detection through regular eye examinations will help preserve your vision!
