Splash Occupational Therapy is a private practice providing assessments and intervention on site at our clinic, within the school environment or at home, depending on the needs of your child and family. The team at Splash Paediatric Therapy consists of qualified Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists who specialise in the area of paediatrics. Paediatric Occupational Therapists (OT’s) look at the occupations or activities that children perform in their everyday lives. Splash Occupational Therapy has clinics in Moonee Ponds, Werribee and operate at schools across the South Eastern Suburbs.
“Occupation” refers to the everyday tasks or activities children need to do:
Self care – the everyday skills and routines that children need to develop to look after themselves such as: dressing, eating, bathing, toileting, sleeping
Productivity - school and kindergarten tasks such as: drawing/writing, using tools such as scissors, attention and concentration, organising themselves and their belongings
Play/Leisure - play and leisure skills appropriate for the child’ developmental level, playing with other children/in a small group, learning rules of more formal play and games, engaging in structured leisure activities (e.g. football, martial arts, gymnastics)
Paediatric Speech Pathologists diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speech, language, fluency and voice. Specifically, Speech Pathologists will treat the following areas with children:
- Expression and grammar
- Semantics (vocabulary/understanding what words mean)
- Social skills
- Comprehension
- Speech clarity
- Reading and writing
- Play skills
- Alternative communication
- Swallowing and eating food, drinking safely
