Capecare

Capecare Capecare is a not-for-profit aged care provider recognised as a leader in the South West. We employ more than 260 staff and are assisted by over 60 volunteers.

We provide in-home care, respite, residential, independent living and allied health care services. Capecare is the largest regional-based independent aged care provider in WA. The organisation has grown significantly over the past 64 years whilst still providing personal attentive care. Our Busselton base has expanded from a 32-bed aged care hostel to a facility encompassing 50 independent living

units, a Social Centre, Respite accommodation, Allied Health gym and residential care for up to 118 patients. Capecare now has a second fully integrated, purpose built aged care facility in Dunsborough, the first of its kind in the town. It features an 80-bed residential care facility and 21 independent living apartments and the headquarters of Dunsborough CWA branch. Both facilities are located in enviable beachside locations, and we also provide services in the community, delivering in-home care across the Capes. We continue to build on our history, experience and expertise to provide some of the most modern and forward-thinking aged care services available and strive to be the south west’s aged care provider and employer of choice. Capecare is a not-for-profit independent and incorporated entity and all funds generated remain within the organisation.

Four years ago, a group of PALM (Pacific Australia Labour Mobility team) members arrived from Fiji - bringing warmth, energy and a big boost to our Capecare community.

At a time when aged care services were facing workforce shortages following COVID, these incredible women stepped in to support our residents and staff. Over the years, they’ve built strong connections, grown their skills, and become a valued part of daily life at Capecare.

This month, we’re proud to be celebrating a special milestone. Four of our original team members - Tama, Vika, Lomani and Lita - are now permanent Capecare employees.

This next step also provides a pathway to permanent residency, meaning they can look forward to welcoming their families to Australia.

We marked the occasion with a beautiful afternoon tea, thoughtfully organised by the team themselves as a gesture of thanks.

We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Capecare family.

Easter came early at Capecare, with a special visit from our intergenerational kindy friends this week. 🐣

The buzz grew as our Busselton residents joined the children for an Easter-themed morning of music, movement and creativity. From a lively concert to egg-and-spoon fun, chocolate-coloured playdough and colouring in, the morning sparked plenty of laughter and meaningful moments between generations.

Moments like these—shared laughter, connection and simple joy—are what make our intergenerational program so special.

A heartfelt thank you to Josette, the teachers and all the kindy kids from St Mary MacKillop College for continuing to bring such energy and happiness to our residents and staff.

We feel so honoured to have the pleasure of caring for Joan to enable her to continue living at home. She is truly one of a kind! Happy 107th birthday to an amazing woman.

What a privilege to celebrate a very special milestone today with Busselton’s own Joan Harlow on her 107th birthday 🎉

Joan has lived an extraordinary life, from growing up in Perth in the 1920s, to her wartime years, to calling Busselton home. But today was all about celebrating her warmth, wit and wonderful spirit.

Amazingly she still lives in her own home here in Busselton thanks to the amazing home support service of Capecare.

She credits her long life to good food, music and reading - and it’s easy to see why she’s still so full of life.

Happy 107th birthday, Joan 💛

If you have a loved one in residential care in the region, chances are they've had the joy of being visited by Taffy the miniature therapy horse.

Taffy needed emergency surgery last week and the good news is he is back home with owner Tracey. But she's been left with a big vet bill and a go fund me campaign has been set up to help contribute to the cost.

Taffy and Tracey regular visitors to Capecare and we hope we'll see him back on his feet and spreading the love again soon. Sending your all the best Giddy Up Taffy & Friends Travels. Go Fund Me details below if you would like to contribute,

A generous donation from the Dunsborough Lions Club is helping improve care for our residents.

The Club recently donated a portable bladder scanner, which will allow our nursing team to quickly assess residents and support earlier diagnosis and treatment of potentially serious conditions.

Capecare Board Member and Dunsborough GP Dr Mostyn Hamdorf said the scanner provides a quick, safe and non-intrusive way to differentiate between urinary obstruction and dehydration.

“For older people, particularly those who may struggle to communicate their symptoms, this technology helps take the guesswork out of diagnosis,” Dr Hamdorf said.

The $6,000 scanner will be used across Capecare’s Dunsborough and Busselton residential facilities, as well as by nurses supporting home care clients. By enabling on-site assessments, the device has the potential to reduce hospital visits, improve health outcomes and ease pressure on local health services.

Dunsborough Lions Club Secretary Kaye McCormick said the Club was proud to support an organisation that plays such an important role in the local community.

Thank you to the Dunsborough Lions Club for their continued support of Capecare and our residents.
