Sometimes you’ve got nothing in the tank, sometimes you’re the most brilliant human on the planet.

Your body needs energy and nourishment on both days but your ability to get that nourishment in is very different.

There is so much I could add onto each slide of this post!

This concept isn’t limited to only neurodivergence but can be helpful for understanding lots of unique challenges an individual may face.

However, I feel that it’s really helpful when understanding why food can sometimes just feel so impossible.

Everyone is an individual and so the examples I gave here will probably fill your cup differently to mine.

For some of you, cooking and social interaction may be things that fill your cup!

If we can understand some of your challenges when it comes to food in the context of your broader life and load, we’ll have a better foundation to form a path moving forward.

Do you feel more hungry just before your period starts?

This may be because your resting metabolic rate is higher. Some studies have found over a 10% increase in your RMR which may look like around 140kcal.

However, not all studies agree. It seems to be a mixed bag of quality when it comes to the research on this.

Regardless, we aren’t surprised when our clients get extra hungry just before their periods and we often find building awareness and planning for this helps.

Although the evidence for different nutrition and exercise strategies across your cycle is in its baby stages, having a reason for some common experiences can be nice.

Not everyone will feel this effect but some of us do and so if this is you, it may be worth taking note and seeing if it impacts your training at all and make sure to hydrate well ☺️

We are big fans of tracking your cycles but I can be hard to track when you don't know much about it!

This post is breaking it down! To the bare bones and we can build up from there!

If you're new to tracking your cycle, start by tracking bleed to bleed. Get to know the timing - long long your bleed lasts, how long your whole period is. See if you can notice when you might be ovulating.

Then we can build from there! We will post more on tracking your cycle and what to look for.

Look, I'm not against carrots or eating more veg. Absolutely love that for you! But let's be real about the science behind some of the claims we were on social media or even my medical professionals who are speaking outside of their scope or not to evidence.

When I did a little investigation into the claims I definitely can understand why so many people are jumping on board! It sounds super sciencey and legit. However, the theory actually makes some huge assumptions and leaps of logic that tend to forget the complexity of the human body.

High oestrogen, poor thyroid function and digestive issues are 100% a thing and can be extremely debilitating.

However, there are so many causes for each of those things.

This theory assumes that they are all related and are all caused by leaky gut / inflammation (side note...can I also just say that leaky gut IS NOT A DIAGNOSIS). This is just not often the case, the body is much more complex than that.

In saying that, eat your veggies, include colour but include variety! Plant foods are so good for so many things but don't just limit yourself to carrots, go wild on all the colours!
