Chef’s Choice Friday has become something of a culinary parliament. Motions are raised. Aprons are tied. And occasionally history is made.

Last week’s headline act… vegetable couscous. A dish so virtuous it practically arrived with its own yoga mat. If the body is a temple, this was the kind of offering that keeps the pillars standing. Colourful, nourishing and proof that healthy eating need not taste like regret.

Enter Meg. New to staff member to the team, steady of hand, fearless with a chopping board. She stepped into the Chef’s Choice arena and delivered. By the final mouthful she had earned herself a title that will follow her for some time… Couscous Queen.

After her first shift, the red carpet was metaphorically unfurled and she was invited to join the Friday team indefinitely.

More importantly, the afternoon was rich in more than flavour. New skills were learned. Tips were traded. Confidence simmered nicely alongside the couscous. Knowledge was shared freely, proving once again that the best kitchens like the best communities run on generosity.

Chef’s Choice Friday is not just about what’s on the plate. It is about teamwork, growth, laughter and the quiet magic that happens when people are given space to try, learn and shine.

Update from the garden beds 🌱
Good news travels quickly on the Central Coast.

After putting the call out for a new lawnmower for our gardening crew, the community did what it always does best. It showed up.
A huge thank you to Dan Humphrey, who spotted our post on Love Tascott and offered a mower in great condition. Not just an offer either… he delivered it himself. That’s local legend territory.

And a big nod to the team at Bridge Mowers in East Gosford, who helped make sure this beauty is ready for its next chapter. A little service, a fresh once-over, and it’s back in the game.
Some of the crew reckon this story deserved the double thumbs up treatment… and judging by those smiles, they might be onto something.

This new addition means less time wrestling tired equipment and more time doing what the team does best. Keeping local gardens tidy, lawns neat, and community spaces looking sharp… one stripe at a time.

To everyone who shared the post, tagged a mate or sent a message, thank you. This is supported employment in action, powered by good people.
Lachie and the gardening crew are already putting it to work.

A First Class Day with the Mounted Unit - NSW Police Force

What a day out for our Community Access crew!
Yesterday they headed down to Surry Hills to visit the Mounted Unit - NSW Police Force 🐴👮 and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome. There was no horsing around because the hospitality was first class

A huge thank you goes to Graciey Pate, our Head of Sales, who very generously donated her rugs and tack after the loss of her horses.
This was no small effort and it is very much appreciated.

The Mounted Police team greeted us with big smiles and even escorted our van inside the compound to unload the loot. We even enjoyed free parking, which anyone who knows Surry Hills is like winning Powerball 🥳

The crew enjoyed a full tour and were treated like absolute royalty. Every question was answered and every space was explored. We spent plenty of time up close with the horses, which really put us on the right side of the law 🫡

And then there was Monty🐴He was instantly a crowd favourite thanks to his big personality and his impressive ability to hang his tongue out on cue!
He is a true professional clearly trained for crowd control

Grace also sent down apples and carrots 🥕🍎 which meant the crew got to feed the horses 😁
Heads popped out from every stall, hopeful and patient, as they were clearly very familiar with the sound of visitors arriving with treats. There was no need for a lineup because they knew exactly what they were waiting for.

A big thank you to our Graciey Pate 🤗 for donating and setting up this experience and to the NSW Mounted Police Unit staff for such a generous, welcoming and memorable experience!!

It is one the LC crew will be talking about for a long time. Case closed.

The other morning we had the pleasure of welcoming Lesley from National Disability Services to our site, who presented us with a recognition plaque marking 30 years of membership with NDS.

The small twist is that we also happen to make the awards for NDS. So yes, in a neat loop of circular logic, we were presented with a plaque that came from our own workshop. Even so, the recognition meant a great deal.

Thirty years of membership represents three decades of supported employment, skill-building and steady belief in inclusive workplaces. No fanfare. Just turning up, doing the work and growing alongside a sector that puts people first.

It also marks the people who have been here for the long haul. Belinda, who has been part of Lasercraft almost since the day the doors first swung open. And Tim, not far behind, shaping the place, the culture and plenty of milestones along the way.

Thank you to NDS, to Lesley for the visit, and to the many staff and employees who have shaped the last 30 years. We’ll keep doing what we do best… and occasionally engraving our own milestones along the way.

Our gardening team has made a simple request. A new lawnmower.

The crew are out there every week keeping gardens tidy, lawns neat and local spaces looking their best. The only thing slowing them down at the moment is a mower that’s clearly done its fair share of laps.

So we’re putting the call out to the community. If you know a local business, supplier, or good soul who might be able to help us source a lawnmower at a good price, we’d love to hear from you.

It’s a great opportunity to support meaningful employment, back a hardworking team, and keep the Central Coast looking sharp… one stripe at a time.

Drop us a message, tag someone who might help, or give us a nudge in the comments. Lachie and the team will do the rest.

Saturday at Bunnings West Gosford reminded us that community spirit smells a lot like onions on a hot plate.

A very big thank you to our brilliant volunteers who made the whole thing run like a well-oiled barbecue. Hats off to BBQ CEO Robert Hossary for getting the day organised. The engine room showcased the talents of Elizabeth Atton and her Carer Christine Audry, Skye Rawlings, Kristin Frazer, Tony Unterholzer, Tammy Jackett, Louise Atton, Andrew Golding, Michelle Wylie, Paul Brasch, Tressa Brasch and Andrew Young. You showed up, pitched in and kept the snags moving and the banter flowing.

Thank you as well to everyone who stopped by for a sausage, a smile or a chat and to those who quietly dropped a donation into the box. Every dollar, every sausage, every small moment of generosity adds up.

Funds raised go straight back into supporting meaningful employment, inclusive opportunities, and stronger connections for people with disability. Proof that sometimes the simplest things do the most good.

Community at its finest. With sauce. Always with sauce.

The Community Access crew hit the road and turned the volume up at Soundwaves Munmorah… a summer soundtrack with a salty breeze on the side.

Set against the postcard backdrop of Colongra Bay by Lake Munmorah, the day delivered live bands, DJs, good food, and that unmistakable buzz that happens when young people and families come together just to enjoy being out and about. No fuss, no pressure, just music, movement, and community doing its thing.
Big credit to The Skill Engineer, with support from Central Coast Council, for creating a safe space where connection comes easy and the playlist does the heavy lifting. From toe tapping to full blown groove mode, our crew soaked it all in, smiles wide and spirits high.

Proof once again that sometimes the best days are free, local, and turned up just enough to feel alive!

Newcastle Scavenger Hunt!!!

Museum Park or as it briefly became known, The Great Central Coast Think Tank

Large groups were sensibly broken into smaller teams of four or five ....... fewer voices, louder opinions

Strategy meetings held in the shade. Clues inspected from every angle, including upside down.

There was a scavenger hunt, which quickly revealed who reads maps… and who confidently ignores them.

A game of cricket erupted mid-park.
Rules were flexible.
Scoring was optimistic.
Umpiring was, as always, controversial.
Healthy competition all round.
Winning mattered.
Not winning was also loudly discussed

Once brains and bodies were suitably exhausted, the sausage sizzle arrived like a hero.

Nothing brings peace to rival teams quite like a snag, bread, onions and sauce.
Fresh air, teamwork, laughs, and a park full of memories.

On the bus ride home, Newcastle slowly disappeared out the windows, but the day replayed in full surround sound.

Conversations overlapped, stories were retold with added flair, disputed cricket moments were re-litigated, and scavenger hunt victories grew more impressive by the kilometer.

Laughter bounced down the aisle, snacks were shared, and the tired, satisfied hum of a day well spent settled in. That gentle kind of chaos you only get when fresh air, friendly competition, and a sausage sizzle have all done their job
