HLTAID012 – PROVIDE FIRST AID RESPONSE IN AN EDUCATION AND CARE SETTING
Course Summary:
This course is designed for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylaxis emergencies.
This course incorporates the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.
This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of “First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis”.
Course Content:
• Assessing an emergency situation
• Infection control
• Airway and breathing management, including choking
• Head, chest and abdominal injuries
• Bleeding, burns and electric shock
• Seizures and shock
• Medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes and convulsions
• Risk management for asthma and anaphylaxis
• Anaphylaxis emergency management
• Asthma emergency management
• Allergic reactions
• Eye and soft tissue injuries
• Bites and stings
• First Aid for minor wounds
• Near drowning
• Hyperthermia and hypothermia
• Fractures, breaks and spinal injuries
• Poisoning and toxic substances
• Performing CPR
• Understanding and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Reporting requirements in education and children’s services
• General WH&S and legal issues
Delivery:
This course is face to face training.
Inclusions:
• First Aid Manual
• All training resources (manikins, face shields, bandages, gloves, AED etc)
• A4 Certificate
Qualification:
A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting will be issued to all successful participants.
Recertification:
Participants are required to recertify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.
Prerequisites:
Participants must be aged 14 years or older
*Please note that it is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.
