Still feeling dizzy, off-balance, or light-sensitive — even after completing vestibular therapy?

It might not be your ears.
It could be your eyes.

At Westmead Eyes, we often see patients who have persistent dizziness, vertigo, or motion sensitivity due to Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) — a visual condition that affects how your eyes work together.

With tailored tools like lenses, prism, filters, and occlusion, we help patients finally move forward after hitting a wall with traditional therapy.

Book a 1-hour Binocular Vision Dysfunction Assessment and find out if vision is the missing piece in your recovery.

Our patient with keratoconus came to us wearing a 2-year-old scleral contact lens, having missed his regular reviews with his previous optometrist. He was experiencing red, irritated eyes, and upon examination, we found neovascularisation—blood vessels growing into the cornea due to low oxygen and a poor lens fit.

We refitted him into a custom-designed scleral lens, providing better oxygen flow, improved comfort, and superior vision. Now, one year later, the neovascularisation has resolved!

This case highlights the importance of regular contact lens check-ups and using the right lens for your eye health. If you wear specialty lenses, don’t skip your reviews—your eyes will thank you!

🔍 World Keratoconus Day - November 10th
Today we're highlighting keratoconus, a condition that affects 1 in 2,000 people worldwide. As eye care professionals at Westmead Eyes Optometrists, we believe knowledge is power when it comes to your eye health.

What is Keratoconus?
It's a progressive condition where your cornea (the clear front part of your eye) becomes thinner and bulges into a cone shape. This distortion can cause:
* Blurred and distorted vision
* Increased light sensitivity
* Difficulty with night driving
* Frequent prescription changes
* Ghost images or double vision

Risk Factors:
* Family history
* Excessive eye rubbing
* Allergies and hay fever
* Down syndrome
* Certain connective tissue disorders

Early Detection is Key! 🔑
Modern diagnostic tools like corneal topography can detect keratoconus before symptoms become severe. Treatment options include:
* Corneal cross-linking - stops progression
* Specialty contact lenses
* Scleral lenses for advanced cases
* In severe cases, corneal transplant

At Westmead Eyes, we offer:
✅ Advanced corneal mapping
✅ Comprehensive keratoconus screening
✅ Specialised contact lens fitting
✅ Regular monitoring and management

Don't wait for your vision to deteriorate. Book a comprehensive eye examination today. Early intervention can make a significant difference in managing this condition.
