We welcome all women and their families to our page. Westmead

Caseload Midwifery promotes pregnancy and childbirth as a normal life event. We aim to provide you with continuity of carer, meaning you can know your midwife and develop a trusting professional relationship throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. Our Caseload Midwifery Practice consists of midwives who work together to help you have a smooth and safe journey through pregnancy to parenthood with minimal medical intervention. When it comes time for birth your midwife will discuss when to come to hospital and provide care and support to you during labour and birth. If you and your baby are well, you can be discharged home 4-6 hours after birth. Your midwife will visit you and your baby at home following discharge from the hospital. Home visits are provided for up to two weeks following the birth of your baby. If you are interested in Caseload for your pregnancy you should be:
• In good health, without medical conditions
• Planning to have a natural birth with no unnecessary interventions
• Prepared to go home with your baby between 4-6 hours after birth, if you are both well
• Living in Parramatta, Holroyd or The Hills Council Areas

We encourage you to contact us early in your pregnancy as we would like to begin your pregnancy journey and accommodate for your care. Sometimes our service cannot offer every woman a position in caseload however you will be referred to and benefit from one of Westmead’s other wonderful continuity clinics including our outreach and continuity clinics, where antenatal and/or postnatal care is offered by a known midwife. Gunawirra and Dragonfly celebrated NAIDOC week with lunch yesterday
NAIDOC week highlights the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We celebrated with some traditional weaving of earrings and bangles and were joined by some of our past and present families for a BBQ.
Great to see healthy and thriving babies and happy Mums!
Dragonfly Midwives work hard to provide culturally safe Maternity care to women with the help of our Aboriginal Health worker Jara, seen here in a team photo with the Midwives Ngaire, Haylee, Tina and Roshni.

If you are between 28 weeks of pregnancy and up to 6 weeks post partum, and are planning to or have birthed at one of the Western Sydney Maternity hospitals we would like to hear from you !

Last Friday, our Westmead Caseload midwives teamed up with Blacktown MGP for a fantastic acupressure course led by Dr Kate Levett.
We learnt valuable acupressure techniques to support your labour preparation, including ways to help ripen the cervix, ease pain in labour, and reduce the need for intervention. We also gained tools to teach you and your birth partners how to use these techniques antenatally. We’re excited to bring these skills back to share with you! 💛

I had the homebirth of my dreams and I owe it all to my incredible midwife, Maya.

From our very first meeting, I knew I was in the best hands. Her warmth, positivity, and deep passion for her work instantly made me feel safe, confident, and truly supported. She respected and empowered every decision I made, gently sharing her extensive knowledge without bias and always encouraging me to trust my instincts through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

When my waters began to leak and an induction was scheduled, it seemed like my dream of a homebirth might slip away. But Maya, ever calm and grounded, greeted me with her reassuring smile and said with complete certainty, “You’ll get your homebirth.” And she, along with the amazing Westmead caseload team, helped manifest that vision into reality.
Just before midnight and hours before my induction, I went into labour naturally. I was able to welcome my baby boy into the world in an unmedicated water birth exactly as I had hoped.

Even more special was having my toddler, who was also born with the support of the Westmead caseload team two years ago, present for the experience. Maya embraced her with such kindness and inclusion, creating a space filled with love, safety, and connection. Her presence not only boosted my oxytocin, it allowed me to relax deeply, knowing my daughter was witnessing something beautiful and sacred.

I feel beyond grateful to have been accepted into the caseload program a second time and to have had an experience that surpassed the first. Maya is a true gem and an invaluable part of the team. I can only hope to have her by my side again if we grow our family in the future.

A heartfelt thank you also to Emma, our secondary midwife, who brought such calm, compassionate energy. I instantly felt comfortable in her presence and she worked so well with Maya. Emma also played the role of photographer, capturing breathtaking photos and videos that now mean the world to me.

To Maya, Emma, and the Westmead caseload team—thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have given me a birth story I will cherish forever.

Lots of exciting things going on for caseload at the moment- a very successful home birth skills and drills workshop yesterday, a collaboration with our midwives and paramedics and a great opportunity to communicate and work together effectively in managing unexpected emergencies at home. And another great month of outcomes in caseload in May 🫶🏼

Heba and Collette are Midwives in our Papoose team. They provide continuity of care during pregnancy and up to 2 weeks at home after birth.
They have been trained in caring for women who have experienced female circumcision (FGM)
Have a listen to them discussing the care they provide with Dr Gaya

We have a Midwife of the Year award where Midwives nominate their colleagues.
Congratulations to our Betty who was nominated for her dedication to continuity of care and how she holds space for all the midwives in caseload and Papoose. The winner will be announced on Wednesday. Good luck Betty!💜💜
