If you’re navigating the NDIS, you may have recently heard the term Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) — and you’re not alone! It’s something we’re hearing more frequently from NDIS planners and support coordinators, especially around plan reviews or when applying for new funding.

An FCA is a detailed assessment completed by one of our Occupational Therapists to provide a clear picture of your child’s current functioning and everyday support needs.

What does an FCA include?
An FCA involves a combination of:
🔹 Reviewing reports and current supports
🔹 Standardised assessment tools
🔹 Questionnaires from parents and teachers
🔹 Observations
🔹 Parent/guardian interviews
🔹 Case conferences or home visits if required

Why is an FCA important?
NDIS may request an FCA to:
✅ Support new NDIS access applications
✅ Provide evidence for plan reviews
✅ Justify the need for continued or increased therapy supports
✅ Help guide and inform meaningful therapy goals

An FCA helps ensure your child’s plan accurately reflects their needs — giving them the best chance to access the supports they need to thrive 💙

If you’ve been asked to provide one, or you’re unsure whether your child needs an FCA — reach out to our friendly team today! We’re here to answer your questions and guide you through the process.
