🧠 CONCUSSION MYTHS BUSTED: What You THINK You Know Could Be Wrong
Think you know concussions? Let's test that. 🧠
Too many athletes, parents, and even healthcare providers still fall for outdated or incorrect concussion info.
From thinking you must hit your head to believing rest is the best treatment — these myths can delay recovery and put people at risk.
TOP CONCUSSION MYTHS DEBUNKED:
❌ MYTH 1: You must hit your head to get a concussion
✅ FACT: Any impact that causes brain movement can cause concussion
❌ MYTH 2: You have to lose consciousness
✅ FACT: Less than 10% of concussions involve loss of consciousness
❌ MYTH 3: Concussions only happen in sports
✅ FACT: They can occur in car accidents, work, falls and schools
❌ MYTH 4: You need to rest in a dark room
✅ FACT: Prolonged rest can make your symptoms worse - active rehab is an important part of your recovery
❌ MYTH 5: A "mild" concussion isn't serious
✅ FACT: "Mild" refers to the classification, not the symptoms
❌ MYTH 6: You can grade concussions (e.g. grade 1,2,3)
✅ FACT: Grading is outdated and not used anymore
❌ MYTH 7: Helmets prevent all concussions
✅ FACT: Helmets can reduce the risk of a skull fracture - not a concussion
