It’s true that balance and strength lost due to ageing increase your risk of falling. But the good news is, you can do something about it, and both are correctable at any age.

Research shows that any type of exercise reduces the risk of falling by 23%*. Simple daily challenges like standing on one foot while brushing your teeth or sit-to-stands without using your hands build the strength and stability that prevent falls.

Debbie works with people to rebuild balance and strength so they can stay independent.

Don't wait until after a fall.

Everyone knows by now that movement and exercise release endorphins - those feel-good chemicals that improve your mood and reduce stress.

But you know what else does? Meeting goals you set for yourself.

Doesn't even have to be a big goal! Just saying to yourself you’ll do something and then DOING it, gives you a dopamine boost.

Small wins create momentum. Momentum feels good. Feeling good makes the next thing easier.

What's one small goal you could set and actually hit this week?
Or have hit! Let us know in the comments...

We've shared sit-to-stand and seated mountain pose from our movement break program.

This week: Seated Cat-Cow.

Round your spine forward (cat), then arch it back (cow) while seated. Repeat slowly 5-10 times.

Most people's spines get locked into one position from sitting all day, usually rounded forward over a desk or steering wheel. This simple movement mobilises your spine, releases tension in your back, and reminds your body it's designed to move in more than one direction.

Try it right now. Move slowly and breathe with the movement - exhale as you round forward, inhale as you arch back.

Your back will feel the difference immediately.

Last week we shared sit-to-stand. This week, here's another simple one from our popular movement break program: Seated Mountain Pose.

Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor, lengthen your spine, and relax your shoulders down. That's it.

Sounds simple, but most of us sit slouched forward, shoulders up around our ears, spine curved. This resets your posture and reminds your body what good alignment actually feels like.

Try it right now. Hold it for 5 deep breaths. Do it a few times throughout your day - especially after you've been hunched over your desk or phone.

Your neck and back will thank you.

How many Easter eggs can you pick up off the floor without using your hands or furniture for support? That's your hip mobility and core strength test right there.
(You can eat them after 🤣)

Happy Easter, Whyalla. Enjoy the long weekend - we'll see you next week. 🐰

When you don't drink enough water, your muscles can't function properly. They get tight, they fatigue faster, and they're more prone to cramping and pain. And as the weather cools down, most people drink even less water because they're not obviously thirsty.

Your body needs water to move well. Simple as that.

Try this: drink a glass of water right now, then aim for another one every couple of hours today. Notice if your muscles feel different by tonight.

You don't need a miracle cure, it's basic maintenance that most people skip.

A few weeks ago, we spent the day at the Special Educators North of Adelaide conference in Port Augusta, leading hourly movement breaks. Now we're going to share with you what we shared with them.

First up: Sit to Stand

Most people sit for hours at work without getting up, and when they finally do, they use their hands or push off furniture, struggling to stand smoothly.

Try this: Stand up from your chair right now without using your hands. Sit back down with control. Repeat 5 times.

This simple exercise builds leg strength, improves balance, and keeps you flexible for all the daily tasks that require getting up and down. Do it a few times throughout the day - while the kettle boils, during meeting breaks, whenever you think of it.

Karryn Greenbank, Principal said of our sessions, "I heartily recommend Sunnd Olistico as a valuable asset to any professional development training sessions. We are already planning to integrate them into our next Pupil Free Day!"
