Four years ago I stepped into birth work through photography… and it changed me forever.

Even though I had already given birth four times myself, witnessing another woman bring her baby earthside, holding space, documenting the strength in her eyes, the vulnerability, the power, awakened something deeper in me.

Birth is not just a medical event.
It is emotional. It is physiological. It is transformative.

As a doula and birth photographer, my role isn’t to replace your care provider. It’s to protect your space.

✨ Continuous support has been shown to:
• Reduce the likelihood of intervention
• Shorten labour
• Increase satisfaction with the birth experience
• Lower rates of cesarean and assisted births

But beyond statistics… it’s about something even more important.
It’s about a woman feeling:
– Heard
– Safe
– Informed
– Supported without judgement

I have now supported and captured 7 births, and every single one has reinforced why this work matters.

Birth deserves reverence.
Mothers deserve advocacy.
Families deserve to remember how powerful they truly are.

Life has been full, and like many mothers building a dream around family life, I’ve moved gently and intentionally. But this year, I’m making space for what sets my soul on fire.

Because supporting women in birth isn’t just something I do, it’s something I deeply believe in.

If you’re preparing for birth and wondering what support could look like for you, my inbox is always open 🤍

Birth isn’t just physical.
It’s neurological. It’s emotional. It’s deeply psychological.

When a woman feels safe, supported and seen, her body works differently.
Oxytocin flows. Muscles soften. She copes better. She surrenders more easily.

Support isn’t a luxury in birth.
It changes outcomes. It changes memories. It changes how a woman walks away from her experience.

When Violet was born — my second birth — I already knew what labour felt like.
But what made it empowering wasn’t just my body knowing what to do.

It was my support team.

My husband.
My best friend, Sister.
Calm. Grounded. Steady beside me.

I felt safe. I felt protected. I felt completely supported and I don’t regret a single part of how I chose to birth.

That experience is a huge part of why I became a doula.

And while I’ve been a little quiet on here lately again, my intention this year is to be more present, to keep sharing, educating, and reminding women that they deserve support in their birth space.

You were never meant to do it alone 🤍

Tonight, I light my candle for my precious girl, Iris Bloom — born sleeping at 18 weeks, but loved for a lifetime. 🌸

This is our second year honouring you, my darling, and somehow this one has felt the hardest. Maybe it’s because time has given me space to truly feel the weight of your absence, the quiet moments where I imagine who you might have been. Since your birthday, the ache has sat a little closer — a reminder that grief doesn’t fade, it just changes form.

You were small, but your impact was infinite. You taught me the depths of love, and the strength that comes from carrying both heartbreak and hope in the same heart. Tonight your light joins thousands of others — a wave of tiny flames stretching across the world, each one for a baby so loved, so missed, and never forgotten.

Forever my daughter, forever my Iris Bloom. 💛✨

✨ TENS Testimonial ✨
Real words from a beautiful mama I recently supported 🤍

“Leading up to the birth of my daughter, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a TENS machine. I was in early labour for what felt like forever — the TENS machine helped immensely with reducing pain and allowing me to focus on my breath work to create a calm space for the most vulnerable time of my life.
I can’t thank and appreciate Nadine enough for her knowledge, support and allowing me to use her machine x”

Thank-you Sarah for sharing your beautiful words!

This is exactly why I offer TENS machines for hire 💛
They’re such a powerful, natural tool to support your body during early labour — helping you feel grounded, in control, and more connected to your breath.

✨ A Total Lifesaver ✨
Sharing some beautiful feedback from Ruby’s birth experience with a TENS machine:

“I used a TENS machine during the birth of my third baby and genuinely can’t recommend it enough. My labour was much faster and more intense than previous births, and while I’d planned a water birth, I wasn’t able to because I needed closer monitoring. The TENS machine was honestly a godsend.

I started early labour with a birthing comb and lots of time on the ball, but once things ramped up, I switched on the TENS — and never looked back. The boost button during contractions gave me a real sense of control and helped me manage pain. I only used the TENS and gas in the end, and that was all I needed!

It allowed me to stay upright, active, and empowered the whole way through. For anyone preparing for birth — especially if your plans might change — I highly recommend having a TENS machine available.”

💛 Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more or add it to your birth toolkit!

A Little Life + Business Update ✨

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared here, but I’m so excited to reconnect with this beautiful space again 🌸

At the start of this year, I officially became a certified doula, completing a journey that has felt so aligned with my heart and purpose. Since then, I’ve had the honour of walking alongside a few beautiful families through pregnancy, labour, and the raw, real magic of birth.
I’m also currently finishing my yoga teacher training — so I can begin to offer gentle, intentional movement and breathwork as part of your support experience in the near future 🧘🏽‍♀️

And in case you didn’t know — I also offer birth photography, capturing the emotion, power, and sacredness of your birthing day. These moments deserve to be remembered forever.
Doula support + photography = the ultimate birth holding space, emotionally and visually 🤍

🌿 A gentle reminder too:
I have TENS machines available for hire — a natural pain relief option that so many of my clients love during early labour. If you’re preparing for birth soon, feel free to reach out to organise yours.

Whether you’re newly pregnant or preparing to meet your baby earthside, I’m here. With love, with knowledge, with calm — and a camera too 📷✨

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) provides natural pain relief by sending gentle electrical pulses to the skin, reducing discomfort during labour and aiding in postnatal recovery. Safe, non-invasive, and drug-free, TENS can help manage pain and promote healing, making it a great companion for mums on their journey to motherhood.

✨ The Birth of Baby Cashton ✨

I truly cannot express enough how proud I am of Tanisha, months of uncertainty, back and forth opinions but after a ton of research and advocating she got to experience the VBAC she was hoping for like a super woman!

Tanisha was surrounded by love and empowerment with her partner Matt and her mum by her side. What an emotional moment it was when little Cashton blessed us all with his first cry.

I am so grateful and honoured to walk through this journey with these beautiful people that I know we will always have a bond for life after sharing such a sacred moment together.

Amazing news for the Whyalla Community & Surroundings!

With the recent unveiling of our new birthing unit ‘Woonabie’ and the commencement of our new midwifery staff, we are pleased to announce the return of birthing services at Whyalla Hospital and Health Service.

From 1 July, the Woonabie Birthing Unit will provide birthing services to women with low-risk pregnancies who are at 37 weeks or more gestation.

Our midwives will be available on site or on-call to care for expectant mothers 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Antenatal and post-natal care will continue to be provided.

As part of this staged re-opening of birthing services, some expectant mothers may be referred to Port Augusta Hospital or an alternate service for an induction of labour or if the service exceeds the capacity of our Midwifery Team.

We are looking forward to welcoming several more experienced midwives from overseas who will join our dedicated midwifery team in the coming months, enabling a full return of all maternity services at the Whyalla Hospital and Health Service.
