I often hear of people saying how welcoming and embracive I am. Sometimes students will quietly mention that elsewhere they have felt self conscious before, during and after their yoga class. (A yoga class should be the opposite so simply just try another class😊)

Yoga is all about the beautiful union of your body, breath and mind. A yoga practice is so uniquely your own.

What is more beautiful is when we quieten the outside "noise", and the constant intake of information, you may notice what your body needs in any given moment.

You are your body's biggest advocate!

Thank you Susan for your lovely feedback. I am extremely grateful 💛

Yesterday I spent the whole day working at a beautiful self care Charleyoga retreat. I even performed with my crystal sound bowls 💙

It's easy to get caught in the pre Christmas rushing so this was a wonderful way to pause, rest and reset.

Set in the gorgeous space of the Beacon Yoga Centre | Sivananda Ashram we had a day full of self care activities including my crystal sound bowls, Tai Chi, meditation and yoga.

If you would like to experience my sound bowls again I have just announced a lovely, mini yoga retreat in the new year!

The Four Elements - Our class focus this week 💙

So many of us sit at desks, or are on our feet, ALL DAY long. How often are your feet above your heart?

I often feel the throbbing in my legs, due to varicose veins, and so why not "pull up a tree"?

But in all seriousness, this week I am exploring the four elements, Earth, Water, Air and Fire, and how our yoga practice works harmoniously in balancing all four.
The beautiful tree assisted me this week in helping me not only relieve my legs after a walk but also beautifully connect me to the earth.

Placing your legs up for a few minutes a day assists with your body's blood flow. It encourages the blood supply to flow away from your throbbing feet and towards your major organs. These include the heart and lungs but also major glands such as the Pituitary Gland. This gland is what produces hormones that help regulate important functions, such as growth, blood pressure and reproduction.

I love how each day presents pockets of time for us to explore our yoga practice in daily life and it will look so different for each and every one of us.

This is a beautiful message and post written by Charley from

As well as my own hospital & community classes, I teach a weekly class for Charley and her amazing therapeutic yoga school. I wanted to reshare her gorgeous message as it is easy to think of all yoga teachers as the same. Charley and I are fully qualified Yoga Therapists, two of just nine in WA, and offer a boutique service to those looking for a more personalised approach to yoga, health and healing.

Charley Hickey's gorgeous message at Charleyoga
"When you look at this picture you might see two yogis having fun in the backyard playing on some rainbow coloured crystal bowls. It WAS great fun and we're both lucky to love our work (Heather is the master of these bowls, Charley likes having a tinker!)

However, what you might not realise is that these two yoga therapists are 2 of just 9 yoga therapists in WA to hold the highest level of certification as a c-IAYT. This means we are certified with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. We've worked very hard to get here by completing in depth postgraduate studies & research projects.

Our association is in the US and we chose to certify with them as they encourage us to bridge health care, keep us updated on the latest research through journal articles and help us work with other health practitioners. Heather just recently graduated (congratulations!) and I graduated almost 10 years ago. We're both passionate about making yoga adaptable to the everyday person, particularly those who have chronic pain, illness or anyone who wants to be able to adapt the practice to suit themselves without the competitive vibe.

We have both worked extensively in hospitals (Charley at Fremantle Hospital and Heather at Fiona Stanley). We are well respected for our evidence based approach and have a great referral network of health practitioners in the area. So, just in case you wondered if you were in good hands...you are! 💜"

They just always manage to take rest when they need it and they even make it look so easy!

A student shared with me yesterday how much they value the slow gentle pace of my classes. They also mentioned that they find it easier now to remain connected to their body and have a better sense of what they need from week to week.

NOW ENTER what I am so passionate about ‘Interoception’. This statement from my student is such a wonderful example of what I like to think of as a super power!

The power of our gentle yoga practice is that I guide you, offering cues that may or may not work for your body. The more we are able to practice the more we can strengthen our connection to our bodies and minds.

At the end of the day YOU are the one that knows your body best. So just like little Miss Tilly cat here, you too can choose to take a more restful option or the opposite! Now that is one super power that’s worth cultivating!

I find it hard to put into words how much my students inspire me. When I am lucky enough to have a student share their personal wellness journey with me, I am left with a sense of awe and inspiration.

Now a fully qualified C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, I know wellness is a very individual journey. I ensure that each person feels safe and comfortable attending my classes both private and group.

While walking, reading, cooking, or tinkering with a hobby, have you ever found yourself loosing track of the time? Feeling as if you were in a state of "flow"? Almost as if you were in a meditative "flow"?

As we explore meditation each week in class this term, being in a state of "flow" is also a state of meditation. Yep you don't always have to practice meditation being still!

You may even be familiar with the concept of being/feeling "in flow".
It has become a fairly common saying now "I really felt in flow while I was walking yesterday."

This article explores the Flow State Theory and how it came about. I hope you enjoy learning more about it's significance for our daily mental and physical well-being.

💙

Exert from the article:
"Have you caught yourself "The concept of flow state derives from Csikszentmihalyi’s research around happiness. As a child, he spent time in an Italian prison camp during World War II. To escape his difficult reality, Csikszentmihalyi played chess. The ecstatic state of mind he felt when playing chess would later be identified as flow state."

To help you learn more about the history of flow, its characteristics and benefits, and how to create the conditions for a flow session, Mindfulness Strategies takes a close look at Csikszentmihalyi’s incredible research
