I am the Conscientious Cook. Being conscious of how food nurtures or poisons us. Being conscious of the need to make healthy eating affordable. Being conscious of the need to share my learning; my health journey. Like an increasing number of people today I have an autoimmune disease, Hashimotos. In short, this means that my body wasn’t happy with what I was eating and so it started to attach my thyroid. I have been told that there was nothing I could do except wait and watch and live with it. Autoimmune diseases are incurable, but I have found that I have been able to managed it by eliminating many processed foods, eating from scratch and introducing some traditional fermented foods. But who has time or money to eat from scratch - right? I committed to 10 weeks of nothing processed, gluten free, and everything from scratch, and the change was dramatic. Enter my Thermomix. If I was going to do this forever, I needed a way to make preparation easier, and I wanted interesting meals, snacks, breakfast, lunches for my family. In 2016, I purchased by Thermomix and started as a Consultant. I have continued to research food for health and since my Thermomix I have been creating quick and easy meals. It is often said I can’t afford to eat differently and so I have been investigating how quality foods can be affordable. My quest for affordability health options has lead me to Doterra essential oils. My interest was peaked by their food grade quality and how they can be used to add a wow factor to food. When as little as 1 drop may be enough to flavour a dish, it is also a very cost effective ingredient. So through the latter half of 2016 I experiment with oils and have been learning more and more about them. So only for their use in food, but in self-care products, in cleaning products and now I am learning more about the therapeutic value of oils. I have a passion for improving health through lifestyle change in particular food as medicine. I have a passion to be a changemaker. I am making the change in my family. Follow me here on my journey to better health and along the way I will share my tips on easy, healthy cooking and how we can all afford to make the change. Will you come along on this journey with me? I am “The Conscientious Cook”.
