HOW MANY DO YOU DO? //

There are a number of lifestyle factors that can impact heart health. These include diet, physical activity, and smoking. The Australian guidelines recommend that adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity each week, and that they consume a healthy diet that is low in salt, saturated fat, and added sugars. It is also important to not smoke, as smoking is a major risk factor for CVD.

How many minutes do you get in each week?

BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION & ACL REHAB //

Research has shown that low-load exercise with blood flow restriction has the potential to attenuate the loss of bone mineral density following ACL surgery and accelerate clearance to return to sport.

NDIS & HEART HEALTH //

The prevalence of CVD in Australia is higher in certain population groups, such as Indigenous Australians and people living in disadvantaged areas. These groups may have a higher burden of risk factors for CVD, such as poor diet and lack of access to preventive health care.

Tessy is one of our amazing clients who absolutely loves her exercise and her commitment to her health journey is second to none! 👑

SINGLE LEG HOPS //

Single leg hops are a type of plyometric exercise that can help improve strength, power, and balance. Some benefits of single leg hops include:

👉 Improved balance: Because single leg hops require you to balance on one leg, they can help improve your overall balance and stability.

👉 Enhanced coordination: Single leg hops involve coordination between different muscle groups, which can help improve your overall coordination.

👉 Increased power: Plyometric exercises like single leg hops can help improve your power and explosiveness, which can be beneficial for activities like sprinting and jumping.

👉 Stronger legs: Single leg hops can help strengthen the muscles in your legs, including your calves, quadriceps, and hamstrings.

👉 Improved agility: Single leg hops can help improve your agility and quickness, which can be beneficial for sports and other activities that require quick movements.

WORLD CANCER DAY //

There is evidence to suggest that regular physical activity can help to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, including breast cancer, colon cancer, and endometrial cancer. Exercise may also help to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence and improve survival rates among cancer survivors.

There are several ways in which exercise may help to reduce the risk of cancer. For example, physical activity can help to regulate hormone levels, which may play a role in the development of certain types of cancer. Exercise can also help to reduce inflammation, which has been linked to an increased risk of cancer. In addition, regular physical activity can help to maintain a healthy weight, which is important because obesity is a risk factor for several types of cancer.

It is generally recommended that adults aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week.

EXERCISE & MENTAL HEALTH //

Exercise is not only good for the body, but also for the mind 🧠

Physical activity stimulates the production of endorphins, which can improve mood and overall mental well-being.

Additionally, exercise can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by promoting the growth of new neurons in the brain.

HEART HEALTH MONTH //

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Australia, accounting for around a third of all deaths.

CVD includes a range of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels, such as coronary heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and hypertension (high blood pressure).

In 2018, there were more than 50,000 deaths due to CVD in Australia. The prevalence of CVD in Australia is similar to that in other high-income countries. Risk factors for CVD include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and obesity. It is important to manage these risk factors in order to reduce the risk of CVD.

BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION TRAINING //

Our Physio Conor using Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) as part of his treatment 💪

BFR, also known as occlusion training, involves the use of straps or bands to restrict blood flow to the working muscles during resistance exercise. The idea behind this type of training is that by limiting the amount of blood flowing to the muscles, you can still achieve muscle growth and strength gains with lighter weights. Some of the potential benefits of BFR training include:

🔸 Increased muscle size and strength: Research has shown that BFR training can lead to increases in muscle size and strength, even when using relatively low loads.

🔸 Enhanced muscle endurance: By using lighter weights and higher repetitions, BFR training can also improve muscle endurance.

🔸 Increased muscle activation: BFR training may lead to greater muscle activation, as the muscles are forced to work harder to produce force against the resistance.

🔸 Reduced muscle damage: Because lighter weights are used, blood flow restriction training may result in less muscle damage compared to traditional high-load resistance training.

🔸 Faster recovery: The reduced muscle damage associated with BFR training may also lead to faster recovery following workouts.
