When you practise yoga regularly, remember ... you're not just breathing, stretching and relaxing ... but embarking on a spiritual path. The deeper you get into your practice the closer you become to the universe, its myriad sentient beings ... pure consciousness ... and bliss. It was great to lunch last week with longtime friend, poet, yogi and occasional mentor Robert Hughes. We hadn't seen each other for 15 years. He was director of the Footscray Community Arts Centre 45 years ago when I asked him: "There's something different about you ... what is it?"
"I couldn't do it without yoga, Ron,," he said, and that was my introduction to the Yoga Education Centre in Prahran, led by the late Sri Vijayadev Yogendra, from Mumbai. I attended weekly meditation sessions and Vijay's monthly teachings for about seven years, before the centre moved to Warwick, Qld. My first teacher there was Michael Myer (son of Sir Ken) of the Myer emporium family. So it was great to learn that Robert Hughes, looking younger than his 77 years, still practises yoga and meditation for 90 minutes every morning. Hari Om, Robert

Hi folks, this is just to let you know our weekly Sunrise Yoga and Meditation sessions resume at 7am tomorrow, Thursday, February 2 at the Williamstown Community and Education Centre in Thompson St (enter via back entrance). This is a drop-in class so no bookings necessary, but we already have a few confirmations. Some regulars have been attending these sessions for 12 years or more. So do yourself a favour and join us to breathe, stretch and relax first thing tomorrow morning. A great way to start your day.

Hi folks, just to let you know our weekly Sunrise Yoga and Meditation sessions resumed at the Williamstown Community and Education Centre in Thompson St last Thursday at 7am.
Yes, it was a public holiday, but a handful of regulars turned up to stretch, breathe, relax and focus on the present moment.
We'll be back again this Thursday at 7am. This is a community drop-in class with moderate fees, so no bookings needed and beginners and experienced practitioners welcome. Do yourself a favour and check us out. Enter via back entrance (there is a bell).

Hi folks, ... just experienced a wonderful week of yoga and meditation by so many people in Williamstown and Newport. In these challenging times the words of the Dalai Lama ring true: "Without inner peace, how can we find real peace.'

On Monday I drove back from Port Arlington expecting just a handful of people to show up at South Pacific gym (Newport) on a public holiday ... 27 people turned up (including 2 yoga teachers).
Then another 29 on Wednesday for Yin (slow-flow) yoga.

On Tuesday a dozen enthusiastic regulars attended Yoga in the Park. And at 7am Wednesday morning class numbers doubled for Yoga at Dawn a new class at the Newport RSL for Veterans and the public.
Again ... at 7am Thursday, a healthy group of regulars for Sunrise Yoga at Joan Kirner House.
And this morning another solid group for Yoga in the Park ... and we just beat the rain. Keep up the good work everyone.

If the whole world was meditating there would be no war.
