KAHUNA BODYWORK @ NOURISH BODY & BEING

Ka’aleleau exercises is a form of martial art that underpins Kahuna Bodywork. Through Ka'aleleau rhythm, focus and sensitivity is developed.

A common remark made after a Bodywork session is ' you must be so strong! '. I am and yet it is not through muscle strength that this bodywork is performed. I am by no means a large person, not even tall so this would be unlikely anyway.

It is in motion, and through applying the principles learnt during Ka'aleleau that I have the capacity to perform this bodywork.

When rhythm, focus, sensitivity, posture and leverage all come together in a session what occurs is beneficial for both the client and practitioner.

This is where Kahuna Bodywork training takes place. It was a gift to return to Halau Nuholani, next to Mt Jerusalem national park and be with fellow students/practitioners whom I have not seen in over 3 years.

In this training space we perform Ka'aleleau martial art like exercises to develop focus, sensitivity and rhythm. I always come away reconfigured. As much as this modality is beautiful to receive it is equally a process of self discovery.

Hawaiian Kahuna Bodywork & Pregnancy Massage with Kacie Walker

WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS OF KAHUNA BODYWORK ? Kahuna Bodywork was created by respected elder and Hawaiian native Kahu Abraham Kawai’i. It’s foundations lie in knowledge of ancient principle, taught to practitioners through a martial art-style practice called Ka’aleleau. Kahuna Bodywork training facilitates the development of Self and the increased capacity to meet and move with all that you are. Video Link Below: Kahu Abraham Kawaii speaking about Kahuna Principles WHAT HAPPENS DURING A KAHUNA BODYWORK SESSION ? The client lies face down on the bodywork table covered with a sheet. Long flowing strokes are then applied to the body using the soft part of the forearm in a motion similar to tai chi. These massage like strokes are applied in rhythm with music. Through the use of leverage, posture, sensitivity and motion the practitioner performs the bodywork like a dance upon the whole body. This dynamic massage-like modality unblocks energetic pathways, dissolves tension and creates space for the innate wisdom of ones being to come forward. Deeper work may involve specific focus and deep point pressure using leverage to release muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joint movement techniques. These movements are applied without force and a pain free state is maintained. BENEFITS OF KAHUNA BODYWORK - Release of muscle tension, stiff necks and headaches - It is wonderful if you feel tied physically and in need of a thorough bodywork - Increase circulation and lymphatic flow (promotes drainage) - Increase in serotonin (feel good hormone) - Stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system evoking deep relaxation - Assits clients to meet life challenges and times of transistion with more ease and grace - Facilitates a deeper connection with self - Enhances ones sense of wellbeing when feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted HOW IS KAHUNA BODYWORK DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR MASSAGE ? Unlike massage Kahuna Bodywork is performed without the intention to fix anything. Rather it is performed with the understanding that what we embrace completely naturally moves into greater coherence with the whole. The rythmical application of strokes in a tai chi like motion are performed with Ki energy. This allows for change at an energetic level. It connects the body to itself, balances the hemispheres of the brain, and encourages the synchronising of breath and heart beat almost immediately. This does not occur during regular massage. KACIE’S TRAINING Kacie is a student of Master teacher Ki’a’i Ho’okahi Weber direct student of Kahu Abraham Kawai’i. Kacie’s training began in 2008 with the Australian College of Kahuna Sciences where she gained accreditation to practice Kahuna Bodywork in 2009. She continues to expand her practice and understanding through workshops. Kacie performs bodywork with sensitivity and compassion.

WHAT IS PREGNANCY MASSAGE ? Pregnancy massage is a modality that includes specialised techniques to address pain and discomfort commonly experienced during pregnancy. A woman under goes immense change on a physical, emotional and spiritual level during this time. At Nourish Body and Being a safe, supportive space is provided for women to relax and be nurtured. WHAT CAN PREGNANCY MASSAGE DO FOR ME ? - Relieve muscular tension and stress associated with the shift in centre of gravity due to carrying increased weight and increase posture awareness. - Reduce leg cramps and spasm through increased circulation - Helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce collection of fluids in swollen joints - Improves the removal of tissue waste carried by the body’s lymph system - Increase oxygen supply to baby - Support the you through this rite of passage by providing a safe, judgment free space to be with whatever is present for you be it joy or fear. - Reduce anxiety- massage increases serration levels which is a hormone responsible for feeling good. Touch has a soothing effect as it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system which lowers the heart rate and induces relaxation. - Foster connection with breathe, body and baby which cultivates your own capacity to relax and listen to your body. - Pain relief for low back, hips, groin, and ribs (common areas of tension in the 3rd trimester) KACIE’S TRAINING Kacie gained a Certificate IV - therapeutic massage in 2009 along side her Kahuna Bodywork qualification. Whilst providing massage services at a day spa an opportunity arose to work with pregnant women at a holistic clinic in the Adelaide Hills. This lead to further learning with Pregnancy Massage Australia where she gained certification in Practitioner of Pregnancy Massage. Kacie has also attended the Spinning babies aware practitioner workshop. Kacie’s style of Massage and Bodywork has been describe as deeply relaxing and intuitive.
