𖥸 The Medicine Buddha Mantra is extremely powerful for the healing of physical +mental illnesses, +purification of negative karma for oneself +others. It can also allow one to overcome spiritual sickness, attachment, hatred+ ignorance. It’s recommended to chant the Mantra in a low tone in rounds of 12. (eg 54 or 108 times)
𖥸 It’s believed that any living being who hears the Medicine Buddha Mantra, will never get reborn into the lower-realms. The power in this Mantra is due to Medicine Buddha’s compassion. In the past when he was a bodhisattva, he made so many prayers +strong compassionate dedications for his name to be wish fulfilling +bring happiness.
𖥸 It’s no coincidence that the words meditation and medication are only one letter different. They both come from the same Latin root word, Medeor, meaning ‘to heal or to make whole’.
𖥸 In the West our medical focus is on the external curing of symptoms, while Eastern traditions focus more on the internal or addressing the mental issues of illness.
𖥸 Medicine Buddha meditation is a healing practice treasured by many of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. We can practice it for ourselves or for someone we care about who is Ill.
𖥸 We practice the meditation not to replace mainstream medical treatment but to complement it. The practice purifies +removes the underlying karmic causes of disease, +cultivates the causes for holistic well being. Such may be the power of our practice that we experience significant improvements in the symptoms too.
𖥸 Medicine Buddha is much about the mind as it is the body. Empirical evidence shows that when we meditate we trigger a self repair mechanism in our bodies. We stop producing cortisol +adrenaline, +instead enhance the production of immune boosting endorphins +serotonin. Arming our bodies against invasive bacteria, viruses +other imbalances. These changes also promote positive mental health.
𖥸 An element of confidence in the practice is helpful, the meditation has been practiced for 1000’s of years. If we have confidence that it can work for us, then we’re off to a good start.
𖥸 Buddha Bhaisajyaguru, known as the master of remedies, or Medicine Buddha, sits cross legged on a lotus throne. His most distinctive feature is his deep blue lapis lazuli colour; which symbolises purity +rarity + is said to have a curative or strengthening effect on those who wear it.
𖥸 In his right hand he holds a myrobalan branch, an important compound of several Tibetan medicines. In his left hand, he holds a bowl containing three forms of nectar to cure disease, counteract ageing, +to illuminate the mind.
