Time to get serious about reducing our breeding numbers. This young girl is appearing as a non-breeder. After a year of trying various things, her on again / off again hormonal behaviour strongly suggests she is infertile. She has grown tall but does not have the ‘masculine’ look that many infertile girls do, so she might possibly come good but it is time for us to call it quits & focus on other animals. Offered for a good wether-price, papers available if you want to try to breed her. Otherwise she is just a pretty young alpaca in need of a new home with other alpaca friends. Located close to Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, SA.
Please pm me if interested. We also have young adult wethers available & some proven breeding girls too (currently open)

Very unexpectedly heading into hospital for full knee replacement surgery on 10 Dec. Will be looking to reduce animal numbers in next month or so, to ease my workload during rehab. A couple of weanling girls still available, also a few proven breeding females who are currently open for mating & a good number of young adult huacaya wethers. I will not be providing lists or info yet, as I am too busy with pre-surgery stuff, but any interested people are welcome to message & let me know. I can then get back to you in the New Year.
Just shows that you never can predict what is around the corner !

Hmmm 🤔 I guess that we have not used the float for a while… and I guess that we will NOT be using it any time soon ! Beautiful bit of construction by some blackbirds 👏👏👏

Thought I should share this nice little video of Arcady Glint’s fleece before shearing this year. At almost 66 months of age & in natural, unclipped condition. Even though I thought he was a dusty grub, his fleece still shows beautiful lustre.

This might look pretty but it is the result of the extensive dry over the past couple of years, topped off by more recent drought which actually killed a lot of perennial grasses.
Too dry to spray in autumn then too cold to spray in winter & now too advanced to respond to broadleaf spray…. the worst we have seen it in our almost 30 years here. Every property around is pretty much the same. There will be very little paddock feed once it all dries off. Scary. 😬

Final Show for the year in SA. At Strathalbyn. Joint halter class judges, Shane Carey & Kurtis Parker.
We only took 2 animals for halter, Arcady Glint & Appaloosa Clownfish (Nemo). This year they competed against each other in the Mature age group.
Both boys were awarded blue ribbons & very strong praise from the judges and then Nemo was awarded Champion. The judges said they could not go past his beautiful handle & micron that would be good in a junior. Both boys were roundly praised for their conformation & strength of frame.
Nemo was 54 mos & Glint 65 mos old. Also of note is that Nemo is with 8mos fleece regrowth and Glint has 11mos regrowth.
Very proud of both of these boys.

Sometimes shearing is a bit like unwrapping a Xmas present … you are never quite sure what it is. But we knew that Ash was an unusual colour …. and this is what we found. Unusual and rather lovely. Definitely does NOT conform to the colour chart ! 🤦‍♀️

Gosh. It is with such trepidation that I post this, I am such a wimp !

Our beautiful, multi-champion-winning SDF stud male, Arcady Glint, is in need of a new home & his own harem of quality girls. Quite simply, we do not have the work for him here.
He will only go to a kind home where he will be well-treated & maintained, and, especially, one where he will be joined with quality girls. He has thrown pretty-much every colour from white to true black and appaloosa, altho his most recent drop has produced more fawns & browns, and LOTS of females.
Glint has an impressive show record in both halter & fleece classes, at local & especially National level. In his current, 6th, fleece, I am still showing him in a completely natural, unclipped form.

Do you think you might be the next & best stud home for this stunning male ?
Be warned that I will be setting the bar pretty high.….
