As the morning temperatures in Albury/Wodonga drop toward 5°C, stiff hands and slippery tools can lead to nasty accidents on site. Whether you’re on a construction site or in a kitchen, knowing what to do in those first few seconds is critical. We’re up to FAQ #16 in our series: "How do I stop severe bleeding?" The absolute priority is firm, direct pressure. Use a sterile dressing (or the cleanest cloth available) and push hard directly onto the wound. If it bleeds through, don’t remove the first dressing: just pile another one on top and keep the pressure constant. In our advanced sessions, we take it a step further. We’ll show you exactly how to use tourniquets and wound packing for those life-threatening scenarios where pressure alone isn't enough. We make the training hands-on and practical, so you walk away feeling confident, not overwhelmed. Is your workplace compliant and prepared? We can come to you for a tailored session that fits your schedule. Secure your team’s safety today. Call/Text Jackie on 0450 533 179 or click here to call: tel:+61450533179

Mornings in Albury/Wodonga are starting to get that crisp May chill, dipping down to 5°C today! It’s the perfect time to brush up on your life-saving skills while staying warm indoors. We’re kicking off our brand new ‘First Aid Q&A’ series to help you feel confident when it matters most.

❓ Question: What is CPR?
✅ Answer: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an emergency procedure used when a person’s heart has stopped beating or they are not breathing normally. It involves chest compressions and rescue breaths to help keep oxygen-rich blood flowing to the brain and vital organs until medical help arrives.

Technique Tip: For an adult, aim for 30 compressions followed by 2 breaths. Compressions should be about 5cm deep (one-third of the chest) at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute. Correct hand placement is in the centre of the chest.

Whether you need a workplace session or want to protect your family, our training is hands-on, practical, and actually enjoyable.

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: your little one goes silent and struggles for breath. Do you know what to do?

With Albury/Wodonga temperatures around 16°C this May, we're all spending more time playing indoors. Whether it’s a stray toy or food, a choking emergency needs fast, confident action.

For Day 15 of our 100 Days of First Aid campaign, Lead Trainer Jackie Hislop (Registered Nurse) is answering FAQ #15: How do I handle a choking infant?

For babies under 1 year, the 5 and 5 approach is vital:
✅ 5 Back Blows: Lay the infant face-down along your forearm, resting on your thigh, with their head lower than their chest. Give up to 5 sharp blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.
✅ 5 Chest Thrusts: If the object isn't cleared, turn them over. Use two fingers in the centre of the chest, pushing down about one-third of the chest depth.

Never perform abdominal thrusts on an infant.

At Yatson Training, we keep our sessions hands-on and practical so you feel empowered to act when it matters most.

Is it just a sniffle or something more serious? 🤒

As the weather cools in Albury-Wodonga, the office cough is back. But is it a cold or the flu? Knowing the difference helps you decide when to rest and when to seek help.

Here’s the quick breakdown:

✅ Onset: Colds creep up over days. The flu hits like a freight train within hours.
✅ Fever: Rare with a cold, but typical and high (38°C+) with the flu.
✅ Exhaustion: Colds are mild; the flu feels like you’ve been hit by a truck.

Being prepared is about more than tissues: it’s about the skills to handle emergencies when they happen.

✅ Our elderly neighbours and grandparents

✅ Anyone with underlying conditions like asthma

Protection starts with prep. Now is the time to chat with your GP about vaccinations and ensure your workplace is ready before the sniffles hit.
