☀️ Heat Exhaustion: What You Need to Know

With extreme heat around, it’s important to recognise heat exhaustion early and act fast.

Heat exhaustion is the body struggling to cool itself and usually improves with rest and cooling, while heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency where the body can no longer regulate temperature and urgent medical care is required.

Heat exhaustion may look like:
• Dizziness or headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fatigue or weakness
• Pale, cool or clammy skin
• Muscle cramps
• Rapid heart rate
• Excessive sweating

What to do:
➡ Stop activity and move to a cool place
➡ Remove excess clothing
➡ Cool the body with water, cool cloths or ice packs (neck, armpits, groin)
➡ Fan and encourage rest
➡ Offer water or electrolytes once vomiting has stopped

How long does it last?
With quick cooling and rest, most people recover within a day or two. Acting early helps prevent heat exhaustion from progressing to heat stroke.

How to stay safe in extreme heat:
• Drink water regularly, even if not thirsty
• Use electrolytes during prolonged heat or activity
• Avoid peak heat where possible
• Wear light, loose clothing and hats
• Never leave children in parked cars

If symptoms do not improve or worsen despite cooling, seek medical attention.
If symptoms are severe, call 000.

Stay safe and take care in the heat 💛

You don’t need to wait until things feel really hard to ask for support.

Most of the families I work with say the same thing:
“I wish I’d asked earlier.”

Earlier support often means less stress, more confidence, and smoother transitions as your baby grows 🤍

Why a one-off consult isn’t always enough 🤍

A one-off breastfeeding or newborn settling consult can be incredibly valuable. It can help with things like latch, pain, milk transfer, unsettled behaviour, or understanding your baby’s early cues.

But babies don’t stay the same.

What works in the early weeks often needs adjusting as your baby grows and new stages arrive. And that’s usually when the questions start popping up.

“Can you just double-check this latch?”
“We had feeding sorted but now sleep has changed everything.”
“I’m going back to work and worried my supply will drop.”
“We’ve hit the 4-month sleep [progression] and feeds feel messy again.”
“My baby is ready for solids but I’m anxious about allergies.”
“We’re at 8 months and separation anxiety has hit hard… help.”

None of this means something has gone wrong.
It means your baby is developing.

Support works best when it’s ongoing, responsive, and available as things change, not just at one single point in time.

Because parenting isn’t a one-off moment.
It’s a journey, and support should grow with you.

The GROW Family Hub Membership is designed exactly for this.
Launching Feb 2026.

Ever find yourself awake at 2am worrying that your baby isn’t getting enough milk?

You’re not alone. Feeding can feel complicated, and there are lots of factors that can influence how much milk your baby is getting. It’s completely understandable to question everything when you’re exhausted and it’s quiet.

But sometimes, the hardest part isn’t the feeding itself. It’s the 2am spiral. When the house is dark, the doubts get loud, and our minds run ahead of the facts.

If you’re feeling this way, pause. Take a breath. Daylight brings clarity, support, and perspective. And most of the time, your baby is doing better than your tired brain is letting you believe.

If your mama heart says you need support, reach out. I’m always here 💛
