A message from Family Advocacy:

Your experiences can help with the design of Foundational Supports for children under 9 years old, to ensure genuine community inclusion!

Family voices are underrepresented in the NSW government's recent consultations on Foundational Supports, that aim to provide children and their families with information, tools and services

The Department of Communities and Justice has invited Family Advocacy to co-host this workshop. We are asking you to provide critical feedback in the design process, to ensure the voices of families are heard.

Help improve developmental outcomes as early as possible.

Share your insights, register below for an online Zoom consultation:
Thursday, 6 November, 6pm (Sydney time)

Your voice matters in shaping accessible, effective, and inclusive supports.

The Albury-Wodonga Capability Network is looking for more members – would you like to join us?

What is the Capability Network?
The Network brings together people from the health, community and disability sectors to collaboratively identify challenges and opportunities in supporting people with disabilities across the Riverina and North East Victoria.

The network facilitates quarterly meetings and often has presentations by subject matter experts requested by network members. Participation is open to any practitioner, paid or unpaid worker, team leader or manager representing services committed to best practice in meeting the needs of people with disabilities. Membership of the network is free.

If you are passionate about diversity, inclusion and supporting people with disability, please consider attending our next meeting which will take place at AlburyCity Council (553 Kiewa Street, Albury) on Tuesday 11 November from 9.30 – 11.30am. Morning tea and networking will follow the meeting.

Late last week in Wagga Wagga, our Executive Officer hosted a meeting of Disability Advocacy organisations that operate throughout the Riverina region of NSW.

While all organisations do something a little different, they share a common mission to champion the rights of people with disability.

The meeting provided a great opportunity to learn more about service offerings that may be of benefit to our respective members, clients and networks.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST NOW OPEN!

Earlier this year Regional Disability Advocacy Service (RDAS) partnered with Alpine Valleys Community Leadership to fundraise a scholarship that ensures inclusive participation opportunities in Alpine Valleys Community Leadership’s 2026 Annual Program

With the support of some generous sponsors and community-minded organisations, we are delighted to advise that a funding milestone has been achieved that reflects a shared belief in the value and potential of people with disability as leaders.

This scholarship will support the participation for someone with lived experience of disability to build skills, grow their networks, and contribute to shaping their community’s future.

For more than 25 years, the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program has empowered more than 500 graduates to lead with purpose, strengthen their communities and shape the future of the region. It is a 10-month leadership development experience designed to build participants’ confidence, expand their networks, and equip them with the skills to influence change in their communities.

The program includes immersive learning days in communities across the region, skill development sessions, visits to key institutions along with a Melbourne study tour. Participants also connect with a diverse cohort of peers, forming strong networks that often continue well beyond the program.

Further information, including program dates, can be found on AVCL’s website.
