Last week I was shocked to see Anna Meares, the fabulous athlete currently in the role of the Chef de Mission for the Australian team at the 2024 Olympics, sitting at a podium with two bottles of Coca Cola prominently displayed in front of her. It triggered my health practitioner soul to speak out on Linked In, about what I felt was the absolute hypocrisy of corporate advertising. It’s like seeing a fast-food advert in a gym – it just doesn’t fit. My Linked In post must have hit a nerve, gaining almost 3000 impressions so far... and even the president of the Australian Medical Association (AMA ) re-posted my words... then today I discovered there is already a movement well underway globally to remove Big Soda from sports advertising. With a national ( global in truth ) DIABETES epidemic happening under our noses, I truly believe it's time as individuals we took a stand about how pervasive sugar has become in every aspect of our life. If we value a healthy future for our kids, and those we love it's time to speak up and be responsible about the reality of what's happening.
