o many new mums tell me they feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure where to find people who get it.

We were never meant to raise our babies alone. We need community — to share the load, practically and emotionally 🤍

One of the reasons I created .medical was to make space for connection and non-judgemental support. That’s why I’m so excited to have Clem facilitating Women’s Circles for mums and bubs (up to 6 months).

These circles offer exactly what families have been asking for: a safe, nurturing space to be seen, heard, and supported through the messy, beautiful transition into motherhood — whether it’s your first baby or not.

If you’ve been on the fence, this is your sign. Community is one of the greatest gifts of parenthood. Take the step to find yours and book your spot today (QR on the poster) 🩵

My Mum sent me this lovely photo of my eldest daughter and me, taken about 11 years ago.

It brought back a lot of memories of that time. That day, we’d ventured into Darling Harbour to take Miss Bright Spark to the aquarium — she loved it 🐠

What I see in this picture is a much younger version of me… but also someone far more tired than I am now.

That feels significant, given I’ve just completed opening week of a new business.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tired this weekend — I am. That’s to be expected. But my kids are older (and sleep well now), my whole household is backing me, and I know this is a short-term blip.

Back then, the fatigue was bone-crushing. I didn’t know if or when it would end. I didn’t know if I’d ever sleep through the night again. Looking at this photo reminds me how hard it was to get through each day — even though I deeply loved being a mum.

If you’re in the trenches, please know I’m thinking of you. I’ve been there. I get it.

And if it’s feeling unsustainable, you don’t have to carry it alone. You can book an Embrace Signature Consult, where we can talk sleep, mental health, feeding, and anything else that’s contributing.

I felt very alone in my fatigue.

You don’t need to 🤍

Hi 👋

I’m Marisa - GP, IBCLC, Sleep Coach and founder of Embrace Medical on Crown - a practice dedicated to holistic, person-centred medical care and support.

Many of you will know me already, but given the whirlwind of change over the last 12 months, I think we’re due for a refresh.

I live and work in the beautiful Illawarra, which my family and I have called home for over a decade. I’m a mum to three primary-aged girls (and one much-loved fur-child), who keep me on my toes and continue to be some of my greatest teachers 🤍

I graduated with my medical degree from the University of Queensland in 2006 and am a passionate believer in lifelong learning. I’ve undertaken further training in breastfeeding support, perinatal mental health, early parenting support and infant sleep, allowing me to support families in a holistic, evidence-based way during some of life’s most vulnerable transitions.

My approach is grounded in science and delivered with compassion. I prioritise secure attachment while offering practical, compassionate strategies to improve sleep, feeding and wellbeing for the whole family.

I practise alongside a multidisciplinary team .medical in Wollongong, where I am accepting new patients for general practice as well as perinatal and family-centred care. This includes pregnancy planning, antenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding support, infant and child sleep support and early parenting support.

I’d love to care for you and your family 🩵

A lot of food, and a glass of champagne in, I’m thinking about our Christmases past as a family.

The years when Christmas Eve dinner had to be at 4:30pm before the kids crashed and burned. The sky-high expectations (from kids and adults alike) and the tears when they weren’t met. The magic of Santa, mixed with the heartbreak of gift disappointment. The long Christmas afternoons when the sparkle had worn off but there were still people to see.

I’m thinking of one Christmas in particular, hiding away in a stinking hot room with my baby while everyone else ate and drank - because we were both overwhelmed.

This Christmas has felt… easy.

A delay on Christmas Eve that could be shrugged off. A lost Santa sock that brought some tears, but not a full meltdown. Wish lists followed more closely, fewer “surprises.” A leisurely lunch while the kids play independently. Still in pyjamas in the afternoon.

I think it’s partly the kids getting older, partly us understanding their needs (and ours) better — and partly luck.

If you’re in the trenches where magic and meltdowns live side by side, know this: it does get easier. I couldn’t have imagined this day a few years ago, and I’m so grateful we’ve reached it this year.

Sending Christmas joy amongst the chaos ✨

I have officially finished at .

After 7 years, it feels like the end of an era. This practice trained me as a registrar, and supported me in pursuing my interests as a fellowed GP. I will always be grateful to them for everything they have taught me.

Now, I’ll be focussing on getting everything set up for .medical. Things are looking great, and we are working very hard to get online bookings ready as soon as we can.

I’ll also be trying to switch off from time to time to enjoy the festive season with my family 🎄🥂

See you all in January!

One of my favourite parts of General Practice is taking the time to know my patients, explore the full picture and provide evidence based, personalised, pragmatic advice.

The new Medicare changes do not support that. So my billing will remain unchanged and I will continue to provide the care you know and expect.

Off the back of presenting on preventive health at the “Into the Heart” retreat, I have the Well-being checklist for women - it’s not just mammograms and cervical screening!

The mental end emotional load of parenting is HUGE!
So often we take for granted all the things we facilitate as parents, when actually, it is spectacular and worthy of recognition.

Here’s a glimpse into 6 minutes of my morning… sound familiar??

Happy Father’s Day 💙

Today we celebrate the love, care, and guidance of dads and father figures everywhere.

I feel so grateful for my own dad — my biggest champion, who believes in me, taught me, mentored me, gave me space to grow and do things my own way, and above all, loves me unconditionally. That foundation has given me me the courage to chase some wild dreams.

I also see the powerful love my husband pours into our kids — the mid-marathon hugs, the way he backs their passions, encourages them to keep showing up, and adapts parenting as we learn more about who they are. With that kind of love behind them, I know they’ll thrive.

But I know Father’s Day can look different for everyone. So today we also hold space for:
✨ Those who are missing their dads
✨ Those navigating complicated relationships
✨ Families where love comes from many different places – mums, grandparents, uncles, aunties, friends, community
✨ Those who long to be dads but aren’t

Wherever you find yourself this Father’s Day, you are in my thoughts.

Life has been full lately. With the kids back at school, we’ve been readjusting to early mornings, extra-curriculars, music practice and homework… and wow, the emotional load has been big.

We’ve been focusing on showing up for our kids — scaffolding their days, helping them through the big feelings. And in the process? A few other balls got dropped… like hair brushing 😅

I spotted this matted mess a few days ago, but none of us had the capacity to deal with it then. So we went with the old faithful: messy bun 🤣

Today, with things a little calmer, we tackled it. One kid, one brush, one bottle of conditioner and a video game — and we got through it. I’m calling it a win.

I often talk to families about priorities: what has to be done, and what can wait. It’s different for everyone. And while I definitely don’t recommend leaving your child’s hair to form a mega knot… I’d do it again (and probably will), if something else needs that precious energy.

Remember, you’re doing a great job — even if some days it’s just a win to get out the door.

What I wish your paediatrician knew more of about breastfeeding…

💧Frequent feeds? Normal.
😴 Feeding to sleep? Normal.
🌙 Night feeds? Not just normal — essential in the first 6 months.

You can’t overfeed a breastfed baby. They’re beautifully designed to regulate their own intake. And breastmilk? It changes constantly to match what your baby needs — day, night, growth spurt, or comfort.

Babies reflux. They posset. That doesn’t mean they have a disease — 95% of reflux is normal and doesn’t require treatment.

Feed/play/sleep? Completely unnecessary. This is a routine based on adult convenience, not infant biology.

It’s time to stop applying outdated routines to a biologically wired process.

Support parents. Trust babies.
