Today is International Women’s Day, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to raise strong girls in a world that still has a long way to go.
As a GP and Lactation Consultant, I spend my days supporting women through all stages of life - from adolescence, to pregnancy, to menopause, and everything in between. Every story I hear reminds me how powerful women are, but also how important it is that we continue to advocate for better care, better understanding, and better opportunities.
But the role that shapes me the most is being a mum to three girls. They are watching everything - how I work, how I lead, how I stand up for people, and how I treat others. If I want them to grow up believing they can take up space, speak up, and shape the world around them, then I have to show them what that looks like.
It has looked different at every stage - from the baby and toddler days when I was a stay-at-home mum, right through to the tween years and starting a new business.
It will keep changing as we all grow, and I won’t always get it perfect. But one thing I hope my girls will always see running through it all is love, care, and connection.
So today I’m celebrating the women who came before us, the women beside us, and the girls who are watching and learning from us every day.
Here’s to raising strong girls and being the kind of women we hope they become. 💜
