MUSCLE MONDAYS!
Hey fitness folks! Let's dive into the often-overlooked but mighty **pectoralis minor**! 💪

This smaller chest muscle plays a bigger role than you might think. Here's the lowdown:

**📍 Origin:** Anterior surfaces of ribs 3-5 (sometimes 2-5). Think of it attaching to the front of your upper ribs.

➡️ Insertion: Medial border and superior surface of the coracoid process of the scapula (that bony hook-like projection on your shoulder blade).

**⚙️ Action:**
- Protraction of the scapula: Pulls your shoulder blades forward. Think rounding your shoulders.
- Downward rotation of the scapula: Rotates the bottom of your shoulder blade outwards.
- Anterior tilt of the scapula: Tilts the top of your shoulder blade forward.
- Assists in forced inhalation by elevating the ribs (though this is a secondary action).

💢 Trigger Point Referrals:** When those pesky knots (trigger points) develop in pec minor, they can refer pain to some surprising places:
- Anterior shoulder
- Pectoral region (chest)
- Down the arm, sometimes even into the hand and fingers (often the pinky side). This can sometimes mimic nerve pain!

⚠️ Common Problems:
-Rounded shoulders Leading to poor posture: Its protracting action can pull the shoulders forward.
-Shoulder impingement: By altering scapular mechanics, it can narrow the space for the rotator cuff tendons.
-It is often involved in Thoracic outlet syndrome: A tight pec minor can be one of the muscles that could compress nerves and blood vessels in the space between the collarbone and the first rib.
-Limited overhead movement: Its influence on scapular movement can restrict your ability to raise your arms fully.

**What can you do?** Stretching (like doorway stretches or corner stretches), foam rolling (carefully!), and addressing any underlying postural issues can help keep your pec minor happy and healthy!

Disk deterioration due to age...

This is coming for all of us, sooner or later. as we age the disks in our spine 'dry out' in a manner of speaking. They lose their ability to absorb force as well as losing some of their size. this significantly increases the instance of back pain.

although bodywork can help with some of this, the most effective way to reduce the root cause is to train strong muscles as we age.

about 16% of Australians suffer from back pain, that's approimatly 4 million people nation wide, with about 70-90% of Australians to experience lower back pain at sometime in their lifetime.
these complaints can range from simple muscle tension and trigger points to much more complex structural and neurological problems.
although massage is not a cure for these issues regular body work can help stave off and/or mitigate some of these issues

Ankle Range

👣 Ankle Range of Motion: Don't Skip Leg Day (Or Ankle Day!) 👣

Ever feel like your ankles are stiff? You're not alone!

Ankle range of motion is crucial for everything from walking and running to squatting and jumping. Limited ankle mobility can lead to pain, injury, and decreased performance.

Why is it so important?

Improved Stability: Strong, flexible ankles provide a solid foundation for your body.

Reduced Risk of Injury: Good ROM helps prevent sprains and other ankle-related issues.

Enhanced Performance: Whether you're an athlete or just trying to navigate daily life, better ankle mobility translates to better movement.

Pain Reduction: Tight ankles can contribute to knee, hip, and even back pain.

Consistency is key! Incorporate these exercises into your daily routine for noticeable improvements.

Let's get those ankles moving! 💪

Ever heard of fascia?.. 🤔 It's the unsung hero of your body! Think of it as a 3D web of connective tissue that surrounds and interpenetrates every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ. Basically, it holds you together! 🕸️
Here's the breakdown:
* It's a network: Fascia isn't just a covering; it's a continuous, interconnected system.

* It impacts movement: Healthy fascia allows for smooth, fluid motion. Tight or restricted fascia can lead to pain, stiffness, and limited mobility.

* It's responsive: Fascia adapts to stress and movement patterns. That's why things like stretching, massage, and movement therapies can be so effective.

* It's more than just structure: Research shows fascia plays a role in proprioception (your body's awareness in space) and even cellular communication.
So, next time you stretch or move, remember your fascia! Keeping it healthy is key for overall wellbeing. ✨
