Whether you’re pregnant, recently given birth, or deep in the newborn or baby raising trenches, your wellbeing matters. A lot. Here’s some gentle reminders to put you first:

✔️ Rest when you can, even 10 minutes counts
✔️ Move your body gently, in ways that feel good
✔️ Book your 6-week postnatal check
✔️ Talk about pelvic floor health
✔️ Ask about contraception if needed
✔️ Check in on your mental wellbeing
✔️ Drink water (yes, this is your reminder!)
✔️ Say no to things that drain you
✔️ Make space for something that’s just for you

Because caring for yourself is caring for your family too. 💜

Let’s get real—parenthood & postpartum comes with a few surprises. Here are some things that no one told you about:

✨ Your baby will cry—a lot (and that’s totally okay)
✨ You’ll be obsessed with baby photos… and still feel like you’re missing some
✨ After birth, your body might feel like it’s been through a mini marathon (hello, recovery!)
✨ Sleep deprivation hits hard—but cuddles make up for it all
✨ Baby wipes will become useful for more than just wiping a baby’s bottom 😅
✨ The after-birth cramps can be quite painful – especially with second+ babies
✨ You might still look pregnant for weeks. Be kind to yourself and your body ❤️
✨ Newborns grunt like tiny dinosaurs at night. Totally normal but very noisy!
✨ Postpartum hair loss hits about 3 months post birth
✨ You may cry at ads, socks and the weather. Hormones are no joke but it gets better!

Small, mighty, and packed with goodness—colostrum is often called "liquid gold" for a reason.

This thick, yellowish milk is your baby’s first food, produced in the first few days after birth. It's full of antibodies, protein, and nutrients to help protect your newborn and build their immune system.

✨ Just a few drops at a time are enough to nourish your baby
🤱 Some parents choose to express colostrum before birth (especially if baby might need extra support after delivery—your midwife can guide you)
Every feed, no matter how small, counts 💛

Talk to your midwife about colostrum collection and breastfeeding support during your hospital stay.

Newborns sleep a lot! But how they sleep matters.
Keep your baby safe while they snooze with these evidence-based tips from Red Nose Australia:

✅ Always place baby on their back to sleep
✅ Use a firm, flat mattress with no loose bedding, pillows or soft toys
✅ Sleep baby in a cot or bassinet in your room for the first 6–12 months
✅ Keep baby's face and head uncovered
✅ Avoid overheating – dress baby appropriately and check the room temperature is comfortable for you

🛑 Don’t co-sleep on a couch or armchair—it’s never safe
🛌 Co sleeping in bed not recommended, and safest place for baby to sleep is in their own safe sleeping space
🤱 Do not sleep with your baby at the breast, it is important to ensure baby has space to breath whilst breastfeeding

Your newborn comes equipped with some incredible reflexes—they’re nature’s way of helping baby thrive.

🖐️ Startle (Moro) reflex – Baby throws their arms out when startled. It’s totally normal and fades by around 3–6 months.
👣 Stepping reflex – Hold baby upright and they’ll do a little walking motion—adorable!
🍼 Rooting + sucking – Help baby find the breast or bottle and latch on
✋ Palmar grasp – Baby will instinctively grab your finger (cue heart melt 💘)

These reflexes are signs of a healthy, developing nervous system—and yes, they’re super cute too!
