One year with Kim on the team.

She brings this incredible positive energy to everything she touches — clients light up around her, the team feels it, and somehow she makes even the trickiest care scenarios feel solvable.

Kim's a bloody great OT. She's thorough, she's curious, and she genuinely cares about getting it right for the people we support.

Training must be practical, workplace-relevant, and updated regularly.

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Bebe from Avant for an education session with our team.

We explored adaptive cutlery options — but we also spent valuable time trialling evacuation equipment.

Why?

Because many of the SIL homes we support may have up to five residents, with one support worker overnight.
In a real emergency, there is no time to "figure it out."

We compared different evacuation options. We practised using them. And yes, we tested them on each other. Even Coco wanted in on the fun…

It was practical, hands-on and eye-opening.

Emergency evacuation isn't just about having equipment stored somewhere in a cupboard.

It's about whether the equipment is appropriate for the individual, whether one worker can realistically use it, whether it's actually been trialled, and whether staff have practised using it.

In the moment of an emergency, adrenaline is high and time is short. Safe and timely evacuation requires planning, equipment selection, and practice.

A big thank you to Avant for creating space for exploration and hands-on learning.

You'll be working with individuals with physical disabilities AND getting involved in training support workers and care providers in best practice manual handling. We'll teach you everything you need to know about the training side (no prior experience required), and you'll have the clinical support and mentorship to grow your skills in both areas.

Let’s be clear about what Movementum is.

We’re an occupational therapy practice dedicated to making safe, quality care possible through practical moving and handling training, consultation and clinical support.

Training [our primary focus] — working with care organisations across NSW to build their teams’ confidence and capability. In-person sessions, open courses, accessible learning options.

Consultation — supporting iCare case managers, therapists and care providers navigating complex care situations.

Clinical services — moving and handling assessments, equipment guidance and OT support for funded care arrangements. This work keeps us grounded in the realities of home care.

Resources — educational materials, practical guides, training support that extends beyond the session.

What ties it together? Safe work, quality care. We genuinely believe both matter equally, and our entire service model is built around supporting everyone involved in the care journey.
