🎨✨ We’re so excited to share that Art Therapy has arrived at The Thrive Spot! ✨🎨

Art therapy is a creative, child-led way for kids to explore their thoughts and feelings when words can be tricky. Through drawing, painting, collage and more, children can express themselves, build confidence, and learn new ways to regulate and connect. 💛

Our new Art Therapist, Kaylee, brings warmth, creativity and passion to every session — creating a safe space for children to discover, process, and thrive. 🌈

📌 Available now for children aged 0–18
📌 Access through NDIS (Capacity Building) or privately

The school day is full of sensory input — sounds, sights, movement, social interactions.

When your child comes home, their behaviour is often their way of re-balancing.
Some need MORE — to run, climb, sing.
Others need LESS — to curl up, be still, and reset.

Both are valid, both are healthy ways of regulating.
The key? Watch, listen, and follow their lead 💛

✨ For kids who know exactly what they want to write—but need a little support to get it out—predictive keyboard apps (such as Keeble) can be game-changing. 💬

These tools reduce the number of taps needed to build a sentence, helping children with fine motor challenges or literacy differences express themselves more independently. 🙌

We love using tech that supports communication, not replaces it—giving every child more control, confidence, and voice. 🧠💻

💛 Co‑regulation: why you matter so much

Before kids can calm themselves… they borrow our calm. This is called co‑regulation – when we (parents, carers, therapists) help children feel safe in their big feelings by staying regulated ourselves.

🌱 Over time, these moments teach their brains how to calm down on their own.

Here’s how you can be an effective co‑regulator:

✅ Slow your breathing and soften your body language
✅ Get down to their level and acknowledge feelings (“You’re upset… I’m here”)
✅ Offer simple tools like movement breaks, hugs, or a quiet space

💡 Remember – co‑regulation isn’t about stopping the feeling… it’s about being WITH your child through it. That safety is where growth happens. 💛

🖐️ Sensory fun in action! This colourful mess is what learning through play looks like 💥

Today’s session was all about exploring textures, temperatures, and building interoceptive awareness — that “inner body sense” that helps kids notice what they feel (like hot, cold, wet, squishy… you name it!).

We used:
🦕 Jelly with hidden dinos
🥣 Chia seed pudding
🧼 Warm soapy water
🧪 And then… we mixed it all together for the ultimate sensory surprise!

Through sensory play, we’re not just making a mess — we’re supporting language development, body awareness, emotional regulation, and the confidence to try new things.

Every squish and splash lets us grow!

🧠 Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that developmental milestones are designed to guide us—not pressure us?

Every child’s journey is unique. Research shows there’s a wide range of “typical” when it comes to walking, talking, and all the little in-betweens (CDC, WHO, Raising Children Network).

At The Thrive Spot, we use milestones to help us support each child—without rushing their timeline. 🌱

‼️ NDIS Funding Update – What Families Need to Know ‼️

The NDIS is rolling out a new way of managing therapy funds — and it may impact how you plan your child’s supports.

💡 Instead of accessing the full year of funding upfront, therapy budgets will now be unlocked quarterly.
⏳ Unused funds will roll over to the next quarter (within the same plan year) — but won’t carry into a new plan.
📉 Gaps in therapy or taking a break could affect future funding if it appears support isn't regularly needed.

We know every child’s needs look different — and this change doesn’t always reflect that. But we’re here to support you in navigating these shifts.

If your plan was approved before 19 May 2025, this doesn’t apply (yet!) — but it’s worth getting across now, so you’re prepared.

👀 Swipe through for the key takeaways and tips!

💬 Got questions? Reach out to your therapy team or plan manager — or send us a message. We’re always happy to help.
