Awesome day ‘testing the waters’ with our Sound Surfing open access today 🌊🏄

Families, parents, and passers by were able to walk through at their own pace and explore and play, and learn more about what we do, our services and how we can help 🎶

We had 4 zones setup:
(A palette of different sound surfing waves 🎨🌊

1: Instrument exploration zone ✨
2: Sound immersion zone 🎶
3: Sensory play zone 🌊
4: Music tech zone 🎚️

(No experience needed)
👉 Chat with a Registered Music Therapist
👉 Learn about groups, programs & supports
👉 School holiday groups
👉 Programs - NDIS and Private client’s

Sound Surfing was a VIBE! 🌊

We co-created the sea today 🌊🦀🐙🐟
With live experimental, creative sounds !

It was awesome to have many families, kiddos, and parents come check out the new space at their own pace !

Families and parents walked through and surfed the waves of sound, the creativity, the imagination until the waves crashed.. Then we got on more waves, of creativity, of curiosity, of exploration ! And we surfed them to shore 🌊

A wonderful re-charging experience and looking forward to doing it all again this Saturday for .pk

New door sign is up!! 🎨

Come check out the new space!
📍 68 Wentworth St, Port Kembla, NSW

It’s taken a LOT of love, PASSION, and consistent hard work to get here, and I’m so excited for what we’re building ! 🎶

We love our new neuro-affirming, safe space & sound haven where we work with people of all abilities to develop & maintain their health & wellbeing.

Thank you to my Wife and amazing Mother to our 2 Sons.. of anarchy😅 for believing in me in me on this exciting new journey.

Lyrics analysis 🎶🧠

For Families AND Therapists💡
Here’s a great receptive music listening activity you can use to support clients 🎶

I like using a simple scaffold on the whiteboard for this:
You get the visual feedback & it’s structured to jump straight in 😊

1. Support the client to pick a song
2. Ask them to write the name & artist, draw, make the sound
3. Gently guide & explore the themes, mood, or meaning

Some helpful prompts when working with kids:

👉 What do you think the artist is trying to say?
👉 What’s this song about?
👉 Is there a story?
👉 what does this mean to you ?

When you feel (insert feeling) tired/sad/angry, does this song help you feel (insert feeling) happy/calm/grounded ?

Research shows lyrics analysis can support empathy, self-awareness, and positive self-image. So when we listen to music deeply, we connect to themes, moods, memories, and emotions, and this can help us develop our emotional literacy & self understanding.

This under-9 client absolutely loved this activity. A dance/love theme, and made them feel good 😊🏡

Connection through sound 🎶

Whatever the client gives us, we go with. In these shared musical moments, something deeper can emerge.. tapping into a client’s innate inner world ✨

Research shows that musical synchrony between therapist and client supports engagement, trust, and a strong therapeutic relationship. By ‘meeting’ clients within the sound rather than relying on words we create space for expression, connection, and growth.

We had a fantastic day running our music group this Wednesday at Warrigal – Shell Cove 🎶
It was GREAT meeting the residents & attendees and connecting through music !

We’re excited for more collaboration and music groups 😊

Highlights🔥

Definitely the listening activity of ‘That’s Amoré’ with the coloured tone bells and djembe drums !

This music-based activity encouraged 30+ residents to listen to the cue in the song ! All while singing along
