An inside look 👀 into Mr. C’s Music Therapy session using AAC tech - Eyeharp (musical app) + Tobii Eye tracker (eye camera) for clients with ABI or TBI, Quadriplegia.

This AAC tech is AWESOME at helping this client ‘access’ music where otherwise He could not.. 🎼

This app has been supporting Mr. C’s functional eye tracking. The more he uses this, the more control he has over his eyes. The more control he has over his eyes… the more he can be supported with his choice and control! 🙌

In the later part of the session we use:

- Yes/No digital cards
- Snap choice board to select different musical artists
- identifying the musician game, such as ‘where is Bruno Mars?’

Let me know your thoughts on this?

Mr C has started an AAC tech trial with Link Assistive alongside his Speech Pathologist from .
Together, we’re supporting his choice and control in areas of health, function, and wellbeing 😊

He’s using an eye-gaze choice board to select his music preferences, and we follow his choices immediately with live music 🎶

The role of music therapy here is to educate, use Mr C’s music preferences, and follow him completely. When he looks at an artist intentionally for 3 seconds or more, the music therapist will LAUNCH 🚀 into song, closely watching and tuning in to what might come next, supporting his choice-making, control, and autonomy.

This week’s playlist kept us moving:
K-pop Demon Hunters ➡️ MJ ➡️ Charlie Puth 😄
New choices being added next week!

We do some AMAZING work in music therapy.

Mr. O has been building his musical skills, self-expression and confidence step by step, and it’s wonderful to see how far he’s come. He is frothing the keyboard ever since we started sessions together 🤙🏻
He’s now able to play Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” with confidence - such a proud moment! 🙌

Client - “I can’t control my emotions yet, but I will”

🎶 MASSIVE WIN this week! 🎶

We LOVE serving families and celebrating real progress with our clients 🙌

This is another curriculum evidence-based intervention we use in sessions:
The Zones of Regulation (see pictured our one this week)

The Zones explained:
🔵 Blue - tired, sad, sick, low energy
🟢 Green - calm, regulated, ready to learn
🟡 Yellow - irritated, frustrated, worried
🔴 Red - mad/angry, hitting, out of control

How it works in therapy:
1️⃣ Identify the zone - noticing body and feelings

“I feel like pushing someone, I’m in the red zone 😡”

2️⃣ Pick a strategy - choosing tools to move back to Green
This under-9 client chose: stretching, meditating, humming/singing, sleep
We can also use movement breaks ⏲️ or ask for help 👋

3️⃣ Blue zone supports - music, a hug, drawing etc
4️⃣ Keep using strategies to calm the body and mind
5️⃣ Re-engage - once back in Green, learning can happen 📈

✨ The win:
This client is now better understanding his thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and using strategies independently.
Huge growth!

What’s this? 🔥

This is a Dialectical Behaviour Hand (DBT) Intervention 🖐️🎶
a musical twist on the Circle of Control. It’s evidence-based and used in therapy to help clients understand what they can and can’t control.

How we do it:
1️⃣ Trace the client’s hand (personalised)
2️⃣ Inside the hand: ask client what is in our control?
3️⃣ Outside the hand: ask client what is out of our control?
4️⃣ Add music, have FUN with it! 🎶
“I can control my ___” / “I can’t control my ___”

Or they making a Calm Vs. Chaos rap ? Have FUN with it 👌🏻

💡 This activity supports insight into thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. When we focus on what we can control, we can learn to better understand our emotions and self.

One client realised that while anger shows up, actions are a choice! He said that he can’t control pushing people when ANGRY 😤 We had a big ‘aha!’ moment when we asked the question ‘when you feel that way, what can you do?’ We found calming strategies like stretching, humming, singing, and dancing. Amazing insight and win for the client! 🙌

This is Mr. C, and he is a COMPOSER 🎶

He uses his eye-tracking abilities to express himself and create music, and it’s incredible to witness..

Lately, Mr. C has been really enjoying the drum kit and violin sounds. Each session, he’s given choice and control to select the instruments he wants to explore. When he sustains longer violin tones, we scaffold and ground these on acoustic guitar and he comes up with some truly beautiful melodies 🎶

It’s a privilege to work alongside Mr. C and to see how music can bridge the gap between expression, communication, and creativity when words aren’t enough..

If you’re interested in music therapy sessions with us, send us a DM and we’ll chat about how we can help 🎶🔥
