A new IBD diagnosis can be very overwhelming so here are some key steps to make the process easier!
1. Book an appointment with an IBD specialist who can help you understand the condition, what it means for you, and provide personalised management advice.
2. Write down your questions before appointments so you feel prepared and don’t forget anything if you feel overwhelmed.
3. Do your own research, but remember that someone else’s experience isn’t yours. What you see on social media or hear from others may not apply to you. IBD is highly individual and requires tailored advice.
4. Stay connected to your support network — friends, family, healthcare professionals, and your workplace. Their support is especially important during challenging times.
5. See an IBD-specialised dietitian for personalised nutrition advice, as general online recommendations may not suit your specific needs and circumstances.
