How can we help? You’ve pulled a muscle and now it’s sore, stiff, and not quite working the way it should. 😣💥 A muscle strain happens when muscle fibres are overstretched or torn. It might occur suddenly (🏃‍♂️💪) or build up gradually through repetitive use. And yes, sometimes it happens doing something REALLY dramatic… like sneezing, turning too quickly, or reaching for the remote like a hero in an action film. 🎬🤦‍♀️ Strains can affect any muscle, but common trouble spots include the back, neck, hamstrings and calves. At [insert clinic name here], we assess not just the injured area, but the why behind it. Was the muscle compensating for something else? Is there an imbalance in your movement patterns? 🤔🧠 Treatment may include gentle hands-on techniques to ease tension, reduce inflammation and restore normal function 🙌 along with personalised advice to help prevent future flare-ups.

Click. Catch. Pop. Not the sound you want from your fingers. 🤌 Unless you're in a 90s boy band, your fingers shouldn’t be making dramatic sound effects. Trigger finger is what happens when a tendon gets stuck in its sheath, making your finger catch, lock, or suddenly snap straight - like it’s got a flair for the theatrical. It’s often linked to repetitive gripping, inflammation, or conditions like diabetes or arthritis. Osteopathic treatment can help by releasing tension through the hand, wrist and forearm, improving mobility and reducing irritation - so your fingers can go back to minding their own business. ☎️ 📱

Your body is a machine. And your bones are doing the heavy lifting. 🦴⚙️ Think of a lever like a seesaw. In your body, the bones are the levers, the joints are the pivot points (called fulcrums if you’re feeling fancy), and your muscles do the pulling. Every time you wave, walk or lift a kettle (or kettle-bell), this system kicks into gear. When one part gets stiff, tight or out of sync, things don’t move as smoothly - and that’s where your osteopath comes in. We’re here to fine-tune the machinery so your body keeps moving well, without the creaks and groans. We’re here to help keep your levers lively and your fulcrums funky.

Did you know? 🦴 Up to 37 million fragility fractures occur globally each year in people over 55. That’s nearly 70 fractures every minute. These aren’t high-impact injuries, they’re often caused by everyday slips, minor bumps, or even coughing. The culprit? Often osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and makes them more prone to break. Osteopaths work to support bone health by improving mobility, posture, and balance; key factors in preventing falls. We also encourage early screening and lifestyle changes that support bone density. Your bones do a lot for you. Let’s make sure they stay strong enough to keep up. ☎️ Make an appointment with our osteopaths. We’re here to help. 📍 Source: International Osteoporosis Foundation

Quick Exercise: Tricep Dips Got a chair and two minutes? Then you've got yourself a tricep workout. 💪 Tricep dips target the muscles at the back of your upper arm, but they also help support shoulder stability and posture, especially if you’re prone to slouching over a desk all day. Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair, hands next to your hips. Slide forward and lower your body by bending your elbows, then press back up. Keep the movement slow and controlled - no collapsing into the floor, please. Start with 8–10 reps, and keep the shoulders away from your ears!

Word of the Day: Ganglion Cyst
Ganglion cysts are usually harmless, but they can be annoying, especially when they press on a nerve or limit movement. While once upon a time the go-to treatment was hitting them with a Bible (seriously), today we prefer gentler methods. Your osteopath will look at joint strain, biomechanics, and soft tissue tension that may be contributing to the problem. And to be absolutely sure you are getting the best care possible, we will liaise with your GP to ensure an accurate diagnosis so it can be managed properly from all sides.

Regular headaches? Don’t overlook the basics — dehydration is a common culprit! Even mild fluid loss can affect blood flow and tension around the head and neck. If you're prone to headaches, try tracking your water intake for a few days. You might be surprised how much difference it makes. Your body (and brain!) will thank you. But if that doesn’t help there might be other factors at play – if you feel like you’ve got a lot of tension (especially in your jaw, neck or shoulders) musculoskeletal causes might be the culprit. Call us on 02 4228 8462. We’re here to help with those. Please share your favourite headache busting tip in the comments!

Got a grip like a pro but pain on the outside of your elbow? You might be dealing with tennis elbow — and no, you don’t need to be a tennis player to get it! Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is caused by tiny tears in the tendon from repetitive gripping, lifting, or twisting. It can make everyday tasks — like pouring the kettle or opening jars — seriously uncomfortable. 👋 Our osteopaths are here to help – we’ll work to improve joint movement, reduce muscle tension, and encourage healing. We’ll also work with you on how to use your elbow without overusing it. Need a hand? We’re here to support your swing.

How can we help with heel spurs? 👣 A heel spur is a bony growth that develops where the plantar fascia pulls on the heel bone — usually in response to ongoing strain or tension. It’s not the spur itself that causes pain, but the inflammation and tightness in the surrounding soft tissues. Osteopaths look at the whole picture: how you're walking, whether your calves are tight, how your foot arches behave, and whether there's reduced mobility further up the chain — like in your hips or lower back. We use gentle hands-on techniques to reduce tension, improve foot and ankle mechanics, and support better movement overall. The goal? Less pain, better shock absorption, and happier steps. Call to make an appointment — and take that first step towards more comfortable feet. 👟

Fun Fact of the Day 🧠 Did you know your skull isn’t fully solid bone until your mid-20s? The process called ossification — where cartilage gradually turns into bone — continues well into early adulthood. This means young adults’ skulls are still a bit more flexible and resilient, which can affect how their head and neck respond to impacts or strain. That’s why wearing a properly fitted bike helmet is so important, especially for younger riders. It helps protect that developing skull from injury. From an osteopathic perspective, the ongoing ossification means gentle care is essential for children and young adults. We work to support healthy growth, alignment, and mobility of the head and neck structures as they mature.
