Here is a sample of Part 3 of Planning Parenthood in the Age of Autism for you to see how straightforward nuturing a child's neurodevelopment can be.
Dealing with autism is overwhelming for parents.
So much information about management and treatment is available, but precious little about prevention. In fact it is commonly believed that there is nothing that can be done about autism - families just have to 'wait and see' if it will happen to them.
This seems impossible with today's information overload. My goal is to help parents to take preventative action that can bring hope and empowerment to parents.
When you take a look at the risk factors outlined in 'Planning Parenthood in the Age of Autism - a Research Based Guide' it is easy to recognise that most people are exposed to many of these risk factors. The more risk factors a growing baby is exposed to, the higher the risk is of neurodevelopmental challenges ahead.
Some risk factors can be avoided, others not. One thing every parent can do, is to become aware of what can protect against the risk factors and use them liberally. This doesn't have to be about specialised or expensive products. Many of these are affordable and available - the trick is knowing what the key things are that you can start using right away.
