H.Parsons Funeral Directors

H.Parsons Funeral Directors H.Parsons is your only locally owned and only family operated Funeral Director. Parsons is staffed by an exceptional team of 50 local employees.

Supporting our community for over 130 years

The Parsons family association with the Illawarra began on April 24, 1839 when Matthew and Puah Parsons arrived in Wollongong by horse and dray via Mount Keira Road. Today, Alan Parsons, Funeral Director, Managing Director and Chief Car Washer with Parsons Funerals follows in the business started by his great grandfather over 130 years ago. One of his greatest rewards today is to be joined in the business by his son Anthony, the fifth generation of Parsons Funeral Directors. "The horse and carriage have gone but the one constant we are dedicated to upholding is to remain a local Illawarra family owned and 100 per cent Australian owned and operated company," Alan said. Alan believes that doing this ensures they can continue the family legacy in contributing to and supporting the economy, growth and stability of our beautiful Illawarra.

Meet Vicki 💙

Vicki has been a valued member of our team for the past four years, working as an Administration Assistant and supporting families primarily at our newly renovated Bulli Chapel. She is often one of the first friendly voices families hear on the phone or the welcoming face they meet when they arrive.

Vicki assists with answering phone calls, responding to general enquiries, welcoming and guiding families, and organising appointments. She also manages bookings, liaises with suppliers, supports community engagement, and works closely alongside our directors and assistants to ensure each service runs smoothly and every detail is thoughtfully arranged.

What Vicki values most about her role is being able to make a difficult time feel a little simpler for families. Being part of creating a meaningful and personal farewell for someone’s loved one is something she finds incredibly important.

Outside of work, Vicki loves to travel and explore new places, cultures, and languages. While she has a long list of destinations she hopes to visit, Japan remains a favourite - she has already travelled there six times!

In her downtime, Vicki enjoys quiet weekends reading through her ever-growing collection of books with her cat nearby or catching up with friends over board games and craft sessions.

We’re very grateful to have Vicki as part of the H.Parsons team.

Residents at IRT Group Tarrawanna recently welcomed a very special visitor, Mac the miniature therapy horse. 🐴💙

Mac spent time meeting residents and staff throughout the centre, with many enjoying the chance to give him a gentle pat and share a moment with him.

These visits are always a special experience for everyone involved, and we’re grateful to help bring Mac into aged care communities and spread a little joy.

Once again, a sincere thank you to Adorable Pony Parties for partnering with us and helping make these visits possible across the Illawarra, and to the wonderful team at IRT Tarrawanna for welcoming us.

Browse the album to see some of the special moments captured during Mac’s visit to IRT Tarrawanna.

Vanessa and Hayden, two of our very dedicated funeral directors, recently made a special visit to the team at Warrigal Links Seaside to personally thank them for the care and support they show our families.

Members of the Warrigal team often attend our services to pay their respects, a thoughtful gesture that never goes unnoticed by the families we care for.

With some delicious treats in hand, it was a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation in person. 🍰 💙

Happy Holi to those who celebrate 🌈

Holi, the Festival of Colours, celebrates the triumph of good over evil and is a time of joy, togetherness, and renewal. It’s marked by vibrant colours, sweet treats, and special moments with loved ones.

🔔 PSA: Our Bulli Chapel is currently closed as we give the space a new look. We’re creating a more comfortable and welcoming environment for families across the northern Illawarra, and we look forward to reopening on Monday 16 March.

We truly appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to welcome you back into the beautifully renewed chapel.

We’re proud to be sponsoring the Rugby this Saturday.

The 54th Kiama Sevens Tournament will take place at the Kiama Showground on Saturday, 28 February, kicking off from 8:00am. The prestigious Kiama Sevens Cup will be awarded to the Champion Club, with the Plate presented to the runners-up.

Jenny, our Head of Marketing, recently attended the event launch, where she met rugby greats and honoured guests Scott Bowen, Charlotte Caslick and Glen Ella, along with Event Director Mark Bryant and naming sponsor Kells.

It’s an incredible event on the sporting calender, and we’re thrilled to be part of it again this year.

Meet Peter 🤍

Peter joined H.Parsons six months ago as a Funeral Director and is already making a meaningful impact in the lives of the families he supports.

In his role, Peter meets with families to arrange services for their loved ones, conducts funerals, and respectfully transfers loved ones from nursing homes and residential properties into our facilities with respect and compassion.

For Peter, the most rewarding part of his work is being there for people during some of life’s most difficult moments.

“You are dealing with people going through extremely difficult times. If at the end of a service I get a thank you, a handshake or a hug I feel that I have done what I set out to do by providing families with a memorable and fulfilling celebration of life for someone they care about.”

Outside of work, Peter has a creative side, he enjoys painting with watercolours, and loves spending his weekends with family, exploring local markets, heading out on day trips, or enjoying a round of golf with friends.

We’re grateful to have Peter as part of the H.Parsons team 💙
