Did you know that breasts have their very own regulating system? The Feedback Inhibitor of Lactation (FIL) is a type of whey protein found in breast milk. This protein acts to slow milk production when the breast is full.
🤱🏽the longer milk stays in the breast, the higher the concentration of FIL, which signals the breast to decrease production.
🤱🏽As milk is removed, the FIL levels drop, signalling the breast to make more milk.

So, in essence, the more milk your baby takes, the more milk your b***s will make!

FEED, PLAY, SLEEP….

Why does this “routine” create more problems than it solves?

Spoiler alert- cos it’s not how babies work!

DID YOU KNOW?

Those little raised bumps around your ni***es are called Areolar or Montgomery Glands.
Everyone has them, but they usually become more noticeable during pregnancy.
These glands play a really important role in breastfeeding! They:
🌼 secrete an oil that helps lubricate and protect the ni**le.
🌼 play a role in the biofeedback between mother and baby.
🌼 Release a scent that stimulates a newborn’s breastfeeding instinct. This scent is similar to vernix and amniotic fluid- helping your bub find their way to the ni**le.

In fact, a study has found that this scent is so strong that newborns respond more to this scent than the scent of breastmilk!

Just another example of how incredible our bodies and our babies are! ❤️

Antibiotics are not a first line treatment for mastitis but please see your doctor if you feel very unwell and the above treatment does not start to help.

What do we mean by “baby led attachment”?
It doesn’t mean that baby is left to flounder around all by themselves.

Breastfeeding is about the dynamic between mother and baby and the work they do together. Baby moves and mum instinctively moves her body to support and guide into the breast.

This helps consolidate the learning pathway so that baby can eventually latch smoothly and effortlessly.
