Your body holds the memory of every physical and emotional trauma that you have accumulated in this lifetime. Without treatment, this accumulated trauma can result in chronic stress, chronic pain, postural distortions, movement restrictions, emotional volatility, fatigue, difficulty relaxing and more.
Unresolved trauma is increasingly linked to a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, anxiety, depression, ADHD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction/autoimmune conditions.
Myofascial release is a way of safely accessing this stored trauma, and gently releasing it from the body, without requiring you to re-enter or re-experience the original trauma.
During a treatment, you may experience myofascial unwinding, in which the body enters into a unique sequence of spontaneous movement as it literally unwinds the layers of accumulated tension, constriction and holding that occur in response to traumatic events.
Images, memories, heat or emotions may arise during this process, and clients often report feeling lighter, calmer, more spacious or more at ease once unwinding has occurred. Physical symptoms reduce or disappear, the nervous system moves back into balance, and a lasting sense of emotional ease and tranquility arises.
Clients who have tried other modalities often find myofascial unwinding to be the missing piece in their physical and psychological healing. The technique can be used alongside other therapies including massage, naturopathy, acupuncture, Craniosacral therapy, counselling and psychology, or as a treatment in its own right.
Sessions last for one hour, and are usually booked 1-2 weeks apart. I find most clients experience benefits from the first session, with deeper healing occurring with subsequent treatments.
