๐Ÿงก๐ŸŒ Harmony Day 2026

Today we celebrate Harmony Day, part of Harmony Week - a time to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes Australia such a vibrant and connected community.

The message at the heart of Harmony Day is simple but powerful: โ€œEveryone belongs.โ€ ๏ฟผ

Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect, and a shared sense of belonging for people from all cultural backgrounds. It reminds us that our differences are not something that divide us - they are what make our communities stronger, more understanding, and more connected. ๏ฟผ

Australia is home to people from hundreds of cultures, languages, and traditions, and this diversity is one of our greatest strengths. By learning from one another, listening to different perspectives, and embracing each personโ€™s story, we create a community where everyone feels valued and supported. ๏ฟผ

At Serendipity Support Services, we are proud to support a diverse community of participants, families, and staff. We are committed to creating inclusive environments where everyone feels respected, safe, and like they truly belong. ๐Ÿ’›

Today, we celebrate diversity, connection, and the power of community - because everyone deserves to belong. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿงฆ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› World Down Syndrome Day at Day Program ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงฆ

Today our Day Program proudly celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by wearing our colourful socks -
a symbol of inclusion, individuality, and support. These socks arenโ€™t just fun and vibrant, they represent the uniqueness of every individual and help spark conversations about acceptance and understanding.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œTogether Against Loneliness,โ€ reminds us of the importance of meaningful connection, friendship, and ensuring that people with Down syndrome feel included, valued, and supported in their communities. Loneliness can impact wellbeing, and today is about recognising the role we all play in creating environments where everyone belongs.

Our participants wore their socks with pride, knowing they were also contributing to the cause, with purchases supporting awareness and advocacy for people with Down syndrome around the world. It was a day full of colour, smiles, and connection - celebrating not only differences, but the strengths, abilities, and joy that people with Down syndrome bring to our community.

At Serendipity Support Services, we believe in inclusion every day - building friendships, encouraging participation, and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› World Down Syndrome Day โ€“ March 21

Today we recognise World Down Syndrome Day, a global awareness day that celebrates the lives, achievements, and contributions of people with Down syndrome. The date (21/3) symbolises the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome, and the day has been officially recognised by the United Nations since 2012.

The 2026 theme is โ€œTogether Against Loneliness.โ€ This year highlights how loneliness can be a serious challenge for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. Loneliness isnโ€™t just a sad feeling โ€” it can affect health, happiness, and wellbeing. The message behind this theme is that real inclusion, meaningful friendships, and strong community connections are the key to ensuring everyone feels valued and that they belong.

World Down Syndrome Day encourages all of us to reflect on how we can create more inclusive communities โ€” by welcoming others, building friendships, and supporting people with Down syndrome to participate fully in everyday life.

At Serendipity Support Services, we celebrate the strengths, individuality, and joy that people with Down syndrome bring to our community. Today and every day, we stand for inclusion, respect, and a world where everyone feels connected and valued. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’› โ€œI do not live in your workplace. You work in my home.โ€

This quote has always been an important reminder of what truly matters in disability support. While support workers come into a participantโ€™s home to provide care and assistance, it is first and foremost the participantโ€™s home - their space, their comfort, their choices, and their life.

Today weโ€™re refreshing this message with new photos, but the meaning remains just as powerful as ever. Person-centred support means respecting each individualโ€™s home, routines, preferences, and independence. It means understanding that the people we support are not just participants - they are individuals with their own lives, personalities, and rights.

At Serendipity Support Services, we are proud to support people in a way that honours this principle every single day. Our role is not to take over someoneโ€™s home, but to support them to live the life they choose, in the place they feel safest and most comfortable.

Because at the end of the day, itโ€™s their home - and itโ€™s our privilege to be welcomed into it. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ National Close the Gap Day

Today we recognise National Close the Gap Day, a day where communities across Australia come together to support health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Close the Gap campaign is a social justice movement that calls for action to address the significant gap in health and life outcomes between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. The campaign was launched to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can enjoy the same life expectancy, health, and wellbeing as all Australians.

National Close the Gap Day encourages individuals, workplaces, schools, and organisations to learn, listen, and take action - whether by starting conversations, sharing stories, or supporting initiatives that advocate for better health outcomes and equality. Activities held across Australia help raise awareness and hold governments accountable for their commitments to improving health equity.

Closing the gap means working together, supporting First Nations leadership, and recognising that everyone deserves access to the care, opportunities, and resources needed to live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

At Serendipity Support Services we acknowledge the importance of respect, understanding, and ongoing learning as we walk alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ The Day Program crew had a great time making homemade pizzas for lunch, with Brett, Jason, Simon, Rhyse, and Koby all getting involved, supported by Sarah and Nik.

Everyone enjoyed preparing their own pizzas, choosing toppings, and helping with the cooking process. Activities like this are a fantastic way to build life skills such as food preparation, following steps, and working together - while also having plenty of fun along the way.

Of course, the best part was sitting down together afterwards to enjoy the delicious pizzas they made themselves! ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ’š Brett and Tori got into the spirit today, dressed in green to celebrate St Patrickโ€™s Day! Tori then headed out with her new Day Program crew, which she seems to be really enjoying. The group had a great outing with some bowling, lunch together, and then some time relaxing and flicking through magazines - something Tori absolutely loves.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธWe also captured some moments from Toriโ€™s dedicated exercise time yesterday, supported by Marie. Regular exercise sessions like these are so important for maintaining strength, mobility, and overall health. Tori works hard during these sessions to keep fit and healthy, and itโ€™s wonderful to see her commitment paying off.

A great few days of celebration, movement, and smiles! ๐Ÿ’›
