When standard depression treatments haven't worked, there's still hope.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) offers a path forward for adults living with treatment-resistant major depression.

What is rTMS?
A non-invasive procedure that uses focused magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, changing brain electrical activity and the chemicals that control mood, without medication or surgery.

At South Coast Private Hospital, we offer rTMS in a safe, comfortable outpatient setting:
📅 7 days per week
💚 Bulk Billing available for eligible Medicare patients (covered for up to 35 treatments).

If you've tried antidepressants and therapy without satisfactory results, rTMS may be an appropriate option for you.

Understanding Dual Diagnosis: When Mental Health and Substance Use Occur Together

Many Australians face mental health challenges like depression or anxiety. Others struggle with substance use. But what happens when both occur at the same time?

This is called dual diagnosis, and it creates a complex cycle where each condition makes the other worse. Someone with depression might turn to alcohol to cope or a person with anxiety might use drugs to calm their nerves.

Signs to watch for:

▪Extreme mood swings or behavioural changes
▪Increasing reliance on substances to cope with emotions
▪Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities
▪Physical and emotional health decline
▪Difficulty managing stress or overwhelming feelings

Why does integrated treatment matter? Treating just one condition isn't enough. Our specialised dual diagnosis programs address both mental health and substance use simultaneously through inpatient care that includes medical detox, psychiatric stabilisation, therapy and comprehensive support in a structured, safe environment.

If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available. Contact our admissions and assessment team for a confidential conversation about treatment options and take the first step toward recovery.

You don't have to navigate this alone. We're here to help guide you and turn intention into action and hope into lasting change.
