Goodbye PCOS and hello 👋 PMOS!

The term polycystic ovarian syndrome was a total relic from nearly 100 years ago when women's health medicine was still in its awkward phase.

It was high time for a name change, since PCOS isn't all about the ovaries - and let's be real, you can have this syndrome with ovaries that look 👀 totally normal.

I'm o***y the moon 🌙 about the new name 😉

The 🆕 name, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS for short, is a total game-changer and way more accurate.

PMOS affects a whopping 10-13% of reproductive-aged women in Australia.

It's a condition that's all about hormonal variations, which can impact weight, periods, mental health, skin, hair, fertility, and more.

And here's a fun fact: women with PMOS aren't more likely to have cysts on their ovaries than women without it.

It's time to ditch the old name and get on board with PMOS !

Nice to see some of the positives of being an “older” Mum

A Bluey post for all the C-section Mums out there 🩷

APRIL IS C-SECTION AWARENESS MONTH 🤍🌸

To every mama who brought her baby into this world through surgery… this month is for you.

People don’t talk about it enough—
how brave you had to be,
how still you had to lie,
how you walked into that operating room knowing your life was about to change forever.

They don’t talk about the shaking.
The fear you swallowed.
The pressure you felt.
The moment your body was opened so your baby could arrive safely.

They don’t talk about the recovery—
the burning pain,
the slow steps,
learning to stand, walk, laugh, cough, and hold your baby again
while healing from major surgery.

They don’t talk about the guilt some moms carry,
as if the way you delivered makes you “less.”

Let’s be clear—
there is nothing less about a C-section mom.

You are strength.
You are courage.
You are survival.

That scar?
It’s not a flaw.
It’s proof.
The line between life and loss.
The mark of what you endured to bring your baby safely into this world.

So here’s to the C-section moms—
the emergency ones,
the planned ones,
the terrified ones,
the brave ones,
the ones who didn’t get the birth they imagined,
and the ones who fought through pain with love in their hearts and stitches in their skin.

You are warriors.
You are mothers.
You are magic.

And this month, we honor you. 💖

     It’s official!

I love what I do, living and working in NW Tassie. Sadly, the two are now no longer compatible. It is with a heavy heart that I will be closing my private practice, at the NW Private Hospital, at the end of March 2026.
Given there will be no replacement for my services for the women of NW Tasmania, this has been a very difficult decision for me.
As a born and bred Tasmanian, I have always been a passionate advocate for the health of Tasmanians. I am also especially invested in Regional Women’s Health care.
You are all aware of the many changes at the NW hospitals in the last 8 years. I have desperately missed my involvement in private birthing over the last 12 months. The current hybrid set up for NW maternity patients, needing care in an operating theatre environment, made it impossible for me to continue with private obstetric practice.
I am privileged to have been a part of this beautiful community, as a specialist doctor for the last 8 years, and prior to that as a trainee. I birthed my own babies here in Burnie and have raised 3 beautiful boys here along with my extremely supportive (some may say long suffering) husband.
I am eternally grateful for the patients who put their trust in me and for the wonderful colleagues who have supported me to practice my craft.
All efforts will be made to accommodate patients already booked for consultation prior to closure. Unfortunately, effective immediately, we are unable to accept new, non urgent referrals. For patients wishing to transfer their care prior to their next/first appointment please contact us on 64301301 or drkim@dobro.net.au
