๐โโ๏ธADDUCTOR RELATED GROIN PAIN๐โโ๏ธ
With the winter sports seasons starting to ramp up, we will start to see patients presenting in the clinic with complaints of hip and groin pain, particularly in those who play change of direction sports like netball, soccer and AFL. The hip can be a very complicated area to treat, due to the proximity and overlap of different anatomical structures such as muscles, bones, ligaments and nerves . A 2011 paper by Bizzinni called this area the โBermuda Triangle of Sports Medicine.โ To help simplify physio treatment of the hip, Weir and colleagues formed an agreement on the assessment in this area. This agreement helped categorise hip and groin pain into five categories, which are:
#1: Adductor related
#2. Hip flexor related
#3. P***c relatedย
#4. Inguinal related
#5. Other (hip joint)ย
Adductor related groin pain is a condition that will present very commonly in practice, as either an cute or long standing issue. This condition is categorised by pain over the adductors (groin muscles), particularly where they insert into the pelvis, and pain on resisted strength testing of these muscles. While adductor related groin pain is very common, it's important to note that it's not uncommon for one or more of these conditions to be occurring a the same time.
