Australian Prostate Cancer

Australian Prostate Cancer Australian Prostate Cancer funds crucial clinical research for treatment, prevention and cure.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of internal cancer in Australia with 1 in 4 men at risk of developing prostate cancer in their lifetime. In 2008 more than 20,750 new cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in Australia and 3,000 men died from the disease. Each year prostate cancer claims more men’s lives in this country than breast cancer does in women. Australian Prostate Cancer (APC) was established to assist with the funding of vital medical research into the detection and treatment of prostate cancer, as well as preventing the metastatic spread of the disease. APC funds clinical and laboratory based research conducted at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South Australia. Australian Prostate Cancer is a Registered Business Name of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Foundation Inc.

For years, Ron was fit, healthy and on the tennis court most weeks.

But then he noticed something wasn’t quite right. He was having trouble with his urine flow, and tests soon confirmed elevated PSA levels, an early indicator of prostate cancer.

With support from his medical team, Ron chose to monitor his condition carefully. More than a decade later, he’s still active and grateful his cancer hasn’t spread.

This Christmas, give families more time to watch their children grow and a future where prostate cancer can’t take that away.

When community spirit and teamwork hit the fairway, real impact follows.

A huge thank you to Tim Strout and his annual golf group, who raised funds through their yearly trip, choosing to support a cause that hits close to home. With several members having faced prostate cancer themselves, the team rallied behind research and care that truly matters for men across SA.

Their generosity, combined with the SA Power Networks Employee Foundation’s matched contribution, delivered an incredible $9,000 in support.

Driving change one swing at a time. ⛳💙

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men with 1 in 5 men facing a diagnosis in their lifetime.

When detected early, the five-year survival rate is 96%, but when it’s found late that number drops to 36%.

By funding life-changing cancer research, you’re not just gifting hope for today you’re fighting for a future where families can share more precious moments, more milestones, and more Christmases with the ones they love.

1 in 5 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. That could be your mate at the pub, your dad, your brother, or your son.

The good news? Conversations can save lives. Asking the questions, encouraging a check-up, and sharing awareness can give men the chance to catch it early — when survival is high and treatment is most effective.

This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, don’t wait. Take the pledge, share our awareness tile, and spread the message. Every conversation could be lifesaving. 💙

💡Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Aussie men — but do we really notice the signs? Or know when to get tested?

We sat down with Associate Professor Michael O'Callaghan, epidemiologist in Prostate Cancer to cut through the confusion, and explore what men and their families really need to know.

From risk factors and common symptoms, to how to support loved ones, it was a conversation full of insights that made us rethink what we thought we knew.

Knowledge saves lives — and curiosity drives it.

This September, listen, ask, and share what you learn. Every conversation could be the one that changes a life.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, and it’s responsible for 13% of all male cancer deaths.

But together with your support, The Hospital Research Foundation Group and Australian Prostate Cancer are funding vital research to change those outcomes.

From developing new blood tests that can detect aggressive prostate cancer earlier, to cutting-edge technology that studies why some treatments fail, research is paving the way for better diagnosis and better survival. ✨🔬

This September, we’re asking you not just to raise awareness, but to take the next step. Because together, we can fight for a future free from prostate cancer.

💙 One test could change everything — put your health first this September.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, but only 36% of cases are found early, when survival rates are highest. A simple screening test could be the difference between catching it early… or too late.

Jones Radiology is stepping up this month — for every MRI and PSMA PET scan booked, they’re donating $10 to Australian Prostate Cancer.

That means every test you get not only protects your own health, it directly funds research that gives more dads, brothers, sons and mates the chance to live longer, healthier lives. 🌟

💙 This September marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Every day, 72 Australian men hear the words no one ever wants to hear: “you have prostate cancer.”

For Paul, an early screening changed everything. With no symptoms, he was shocked by his diagnosis, but because it was caught early, his life was saved. “I was really lucky that I picked it up so early with no symptoms.”

This month, we’re asking you to take the pledge to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage lifesaving early checks. Because every dad, brother, son, mate and partner deserves more time.

Your voice can make the same difference for someone you love. Take the pledge, share our awareness tile, and encourage the men in your life to get checked. Early detection saves lives.
