What orthotics do I recommend? šŸ¤”
Let’s break it down:
šŸ”¹ Store-bought: Cheap, but usually too soft and not supportive enough.
šŸ”¹ Heat-moulded: Common in physio clinics, solid support, and reasonably priced.
šŸ”¹ Custom: Great fit but often too firm — many people spend $400+ and don’t even wear them.
So, which ones do I recommend? šŸ‘‰ Honestly… I usually don’t recommend any of them.
Because the real solution isn’t just about what’s under your feet — it’s about fixing the root cause so you can walk pain-free without relying on orthotics.

Why I focus on plantar fascia pain šŸ‘£
1ļøāƒ£ It’s extremely common — almost everyone knows someone who’s had it. That means current solutions aren’t working.
2ļøāƒ£ It’s simple to fix — if you know where to start and follow the right steps in the right order.
3ļøāƒ£ The best part? The satisfaction of seeing clients walk, stand, and enjoy life again without pain. šŸ’ŖāœØ

🌟 Why ā€œwaiting it outā€ isn’t the best strategy for plantar fascia pain 🌟
Yes, plantar fascia pain can improve on its own… but here’s the problem:
ā³ It often takes 12+ months to settle naturally.
🚶 In the meantime, you lose fitness and mobility because walking is painful.
🦵 It can trigger other issues in your hips, knees, and even your back.
ā± Sometimes, it doesn’t go away at all and turns into a chronic foot and leg problem (I’ve seen people still struggling after 5 years!).
šŸ‘‰ The key question I always ask is:
ā€œIs this treatment just a band-aid, or is it a real solution?ā€

šŸ’„ Did you know plantar fasciitis isn’t the right name anymore?
It’s now called plantar fasciopathy — because it’s not just inflammation, it’s actually degeneration caused by overload and microtears.
šŸ‘‰ The real solution isn’t just reducing inflammation… it’s finding out why the overload is happening.

Think more cushioning = healthier feet? šŸ¦¶āŒ
Actually, too much support can weaken your foot muscles—just like wearing an oven mitt all day would weaken your hand. Your feet are designed to move, flex, and support you naturally.
If walking barefoot feels impossible, that’s a signal your feet need proper rehab, not just more padding. šŸ‘£āœØ

šŸ‘£ Over the years of working with clients struggling with ā€œplantar fasciitisā€ (now better understood as plantar fasciopathy), I’ve noticed 3 core symptoms that show up again and again.

But here’s the kicker šŸ‘‰ many clients also present with additional symptoms — and that usually means there are other pathologies or contributing factors at play.

14/08/2025

If your progress feels stuck, it might not just be your feet—it could be your lymphatic system! 🦶✨ Because your feet are the furthest from your heart, sluggish lymph flow can slow healing.
When my clients add lymphatic release into their routine, they often see results faster šŸš€.
Your recovery isn’t just about the fascia… it’s about the whole system. šŸ’Ŗ

Plantar Fascia Tip: One of the most common things I see is that people are using the wrong equipment to roll their foot. It’s usually a spiky ball or a ball that is too soft like a tennis ball, or to small like a golf ball. Using the right ball is essential for a good result.

Although post pregnancy physio isn't my "specialty" our awesome admin girl Katie is heading off on maternity leave this week and so I thought 'd do a quick pregnancy related post in honour of her.Ā

When a woman is pregnant her body releases a hormone known as relaxin, that helps prepare the body to grow and birth a baby.
As a result, our ligaments relax and soften, and our usually stable joints (like the pelvis and hips) become more mobile. This is obviously essential to birthing a baby, but can also result in Sacro Illiac Joint Pain (SIJ pain)Ā

If you (or someone you love) are pregnant and experiencing SIJ Pain, an SIJ belt may be benefital in helping support and bring more stability back to the body.Ā

The belt I would highly recommend is the Serola SIJ Belt for Pregnancy related back and pelvic pain relief.

This should help alleviate some of the pressure and discomfort. If the discomfort continues, you may need to be assessed properly by a professional.Ā

After pregnancy this pain should correct itself as the pelvis comes back together.

I would highly recommend finding a womens health physio, who specialises in post partum physiotherapy to help you to continue feeling good and moving well after having had a baby.

We will be thinking of you Katie and hope you and your family settle into this next chapter with ease.

Our wonderful client Gayle came in with severe plantar fascia pain due to weakened/deconditioned muscles in the feet. This was creating a disconnect between the hips and feet, resulting in her unable to enjoy her beloved headland walks.

After putting up with pain for the last 6 months and seeing that her orthotics were doing nothing to improve her condition. She decided that it was time to get proactive and find a different approach to the problem.Ā

Which led her to us.

We can bang on about the importance of barefoot shoes all day- however it is important to note that for people who have relied on extra support for a long period of time… there IS a time for softer shoes (at the beginning of treatment) as part of the transition process that needs to take place. This is one of many specific things we can do to help bridge the gap from where we are, to where we want to be.Ā

We want that transition to be smooth, sustainable and accessible for our clients.Ā

Both physically and financially.Ā

Gayle is on a journey that will eventually have her walking comfortably barefoot again.

In the meantime….to help transition her out of overly supportive orthotic style shoes, she is still wearing the same soft shoes, but making the effort to walk barefoot on the beach for at least 30 mins each day to help build up her strength and tolerance.Ā

We are excited for the day that Gayle can get back to enjoying her head land walks again.
