Instead of saying, "I know what it feels like", let's say "I cannot imagine your heartbreak".

Instead of saying, "You're strong, you'll get through this, let's say " You'll hurt, and I'll be here.

Instead of saying, "You look like you're doing well, Let's say, "How are you holding up today?"

Instead of saying, "Healing takes time", let's say "Healing has no timeline".

Instead of saying, "Everything happens for a reason, let's say "This must feel so terribly senseless right now".

And when there are no words to say at all, you don't need to try and find some. Love speaks in silences too.

Yesterday I was handed an envelope that had been left for me care of the Funeral Director's office. I was about to present a very difficult funeral service, so I left opening it until after the service. I am glad I did so, because it was a godsend. After witnessing a mother, at the very end of the service unable to wrench herself from the coffin of her 27year old son, I was pretty shattered emotionally thinking how on earth I myself would cope if ever was in the same position with my own children. I then opened the envelope to find these very kind words from a family who had suffered enormous grief following the tragic accident of their husband and dad. It really brought home to me, at the exact right moment, that for a Funeral Celebrant, it is not a job, it is a calling and if we can be of any assistance to a family during the grief journey, then this brings a sense of peace to our hearts. "Dear Silvana, thank you so very much for being our guiding light when myself and my family needed it most. On the most horrible of times, you offered us sincere kindness and gave us the hope we could stay the course to farewell my husband and my son’s and daughter’s dad. I will forever be grateful for your support, professionalism and the kindness shown to our family. B"

Last Friday the 2nd September we paid tribute to a very special local of the Coffs Harbour, Nsw region. The late Dave Gauci gave so much to the youth of our community over his lifetime. His love of horses was also truly honoured with this beautiful casket. (permission granted from the family to use these images)

Dame Olivia Newton-John has died aged 73.

Her husband John has released a statement:

"Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the
Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.

"In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).
"Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall."

Many people have told me that it was beautiful. I think Jim would have thought it was just what he would have loved…simple with little fanfare and fuss.

This Sunday is the 9th year Anniversary of officiating my first funeral. I was so nervous, but I was in awe of how fulfilling it was to help families in this way. This feeling has never changed. I received this in the mail today. It always overwhelms me when people are so kind as to take the trouble to give me their feedback.
