Our Osteofit classes are designed to help improve strength, balance and bone health through supervised exercise therapy in a small-group setting.

With a maximum of 3 people per class, the sessions allow for closer supervision and guidance throughout the program.

Beyond just exercise therapy, many people also enjoy the social side of the classes, seeing familiar faces each week, moving together and supporting one another.

There is often a period of time between a cancer diagnosis and the beginning of treatment that can be used to proactively support the body and mind before treatment starts.

This is known as prehabilitation (โ€œprehabโ€); care provided before surgery or treatment to help improve strength, fitness, confidence and recovery outcomes. Instead of waiting until after treatment to begin rehabilitation, prehab focuses on preparing beforehand.

Depending on the individual and treatment plan, prehab may include:
๐Ÿ”น A pre-operative assessment
๐Ÿ”น Individualised exercise therapy
๐Ÿ”น Baseline measurements
๐Ÿ”น Lymphoedema education
๐Ÿ”น Guidance around recovery and what to expect during treatment

Education and reassurance are an important part of prehab. Having a better understanding of treatment, recovery and potential side effects can help people feel more informed, supported and confident heading into this next stage of care.

Research has shown that prehabilitation may help reduce anxiety, improve physical function and support better recovery outcomes following treatment ๐Ÿ’™

For many people, the effects of cancer treatment donโ€™t end when treatment finishes.

Years later, some people continue to experience significant muscle loss, weakness, posture changes and tightness that can impact daily life and overall quality of life.

In this video, weโ€™re working with a patient following head and neck cancer treatment to help reduce soft tissue restriction, improve posture and build strength to better support everyday function.

Muscle health is an important part of cancer recovery and deserves greater attention throughout all stages of care, not just during treatment. ๐Ÿ’™

Often many people donโ€™t realise there are different types of massage therapy, each with a specific purpose depending on what your body is experiencing.

Massage therapy involves different approaches, with techniques guided by the underlying condition and areas of concern requiring treatment. Pain, muscle tightness, swelling & treatment-related side effects can each require a different approach, which is why understanding the role of oncology, remedial & lymphatic massage is important when choosing whatโ€™s most appropriate for you.

How each approach differs:
๐Ÿ”น Oncology massage - adapted techniques to support individuals during or after cancer treatment, helping manage pain, fatigue, and treatment-related side effects.
๐Ÿ”น Remedial massage - targeted techniques used to address muscle tightness, improve tissue mobility, and support functional movement.
๐Ÿ”น Lymphatic massage - gentle, structured techniques to assist lymphatic drainage and help manage fluid build-up and swelling.

โœจ May offer: Book a massage with Germaine and receive $20 off your appointment.
(Available for 1 session per person, for bookings with Germaine only, please mention this promotion when booking)

This is Project Garment Glow Up, our 2026 community event to raise awareness about the use of compression garments for the management of lymphoedema ๐Ÿ’™

Over 300,000 Australians live with lymphoedema, yet it remains one of the most under-recognised and under-resourced conditions in cancer care.

This March, during Lymphoedema Awareness Month, we invited our community to bring in old compression garments and turn them into a collective art installation.

For many people, a cancer diagnosis doesnโ€™t end with treatment. Living with a chronic condition like lymphoedema is often one of the harder parts to navigate.

Compression garments need to be worn every day. They need to be professionally fitted and regularly replaced every 6 months.

What we continue to see is that being around others who understand can make a real difference. It can help things feel a little less isolating.

Thatโ€™s what Project Garment Glow Up was about.

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed. A special thank you to local artist Paula Broom for hosting and guiding the workshop. ๐Ÿ’™

Canโ€™t make it into the clinic?

Our physiotherapists offer telehealth appointments, so you can still access care wherever you are.

For many people during or after cancer treatment, getting to appointments isnโ€™t always straightforward โ€” whether due to fatigue, reduced immunity, or needing to stay closer to home, telehealth can help bridge that gap and allow you to continue your treatment plan with the right support.

Through telehealth, we can:
๐Ÿ”น review how things have been progressing between sessions
๐Ÿ”น guide you through exercises in real time
๐Ÿ”น problem-solve any changes or new symptoms
๐Ÿ”น support self-management strategies at home
๐Ÿ”น provide reassurance around what youโ€™re experiencing

Itโ€™s a practical and flexible way to stay connected to your care and maintain consistency, even when youโ€™re not physically in the clinic.

21/04/2026

Oral mucositis is one of the most common and challenging side effects of treatment in head and neck cancer. It presents as painful inflammation and ulceration of the oral mucosa, affecting the vast majority of patients undergoing radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy.

It is associated with:
๐Ÿ”น pain
๐Ÿ”น difficulty swallowing
๐Ÿ”น reduced tolerance to treatment
๐Ÿ”น in more severe cases, weight loss, infection risk, or hospitalisation

Support is often focused on managing symptoms once they develop, rather than preventing or reducing how severe they become.

Research over recent years has shown that low level laser therapy can help reduce the severity and duration of mucositis, ease pain, and support people to maintain oral intake during treatment. It is a non-invasive approach that uses low-intensity red or near-infrared light applied at regular intervals.

This has been associated with improved comfort and quality of life during treatment, and reflects a broader shift towards more proactive, targeted support for treatment-related side effects.

As part of her ongoing professional learning Priscila, spent time with Dr Mark Malouf, a surgeon specialising in vascular and lymphatic conditions, gaining insight into the assessment and management of varicose veins and telangiectasia (commonly known as spider veins).

Sclerotherapy is a widely used, minimally invasive procedure where a sclerosant solution is injected into affected veins, causing the vessel walls to collapse and gradually be reabsorbed by the body.

Priscila was particularly interested in what happens after the procedure.

โ€ข Compression therapy is prescribed to support vein closure, reduce swelling, and lower the risk of complications
โ€ข Early, gentle movement helps maintain circulation and optimise recovery
โ€ข Understanding expected post-treatment responses, such as mild bruising, tenderness, or firmness along the treated vein, helps guide appropriate follow-up and reassurance.

A valuable learning experience to highlight that outcomes are shaped not only by the intervention itself, but by how well patients are supported in the recovery phase.
