Introducing the 2026 Narbethong Early Childhood Development Program (EDCP) team 🤩

Our ECDP runs across the week with two two-day a week Pre-Prep classes and two two-hour playgroups for children who have a vision impairment (with or without additional disabilities). Trisha is our ECDP co-ordinator, Pre-Prep Diamond 1 teacher and Playgroup teacher. Fiona is our Pre-Prep Diamond 2 teacher. Dorothy, Thomas and Kathy are our wonderful teacher aides who support our young learners to engage in their programs.

Learning in the Narbethong ECDP focuses on the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with vision impairments which targets development of critical skills and understandings in the areas of Compensatory Access, Sensory Efficiency, Assistive Technology, Orientation and Mobility, Independent Living, Social Interaction, Recreation and Leisure, Self-determination and Career Education. All learning goals are supported by Dr Lilli Nielsen’s Active Learning pedagogical practices and link to learning within the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines.

Learners in the year prior to Prep are supported to transition to Prep at the school of their parents' choice.

Celebrating Holi Festival!

Volunteers from Shirdi Sai Sansthan Brisbane Ltd. visited our school today to lead a joyous event with a Holi theme.

This generous group has donated classroom resources to our school and wanted to support an occasion where our students and staff could come together and enjoy themselves. The Holi festival of colour was a great way to do this!

Students listened to a short history of the festival; participated in an interactive story about children celebrating Holi in India; danced with bright scarfs and instruments; and applied bright coloured powders to each other.

Staff and students enjoyed some delicious Indian treats and each student received a gift pack and sensory toy of their choice 🤩

Last week we held the first 2026 Middle Years assembly!

Classes shared the wonderful learning activities they have started doing this semester, including their Design and Technology projects - a pizza garden in the Oval rooms, Echo Buckets in the Hexagon room, new learning environments in the Circle and Rectangle rooms and designing vehicles in the Star room. Oval 2 also shared the class rules they developed to be organised, kind, confident, persistent and resilient in their classroom.

Middle Years learners received awards for confidence in climbing stairs; delivering complex messages using PODD; confidently persisting in wearing glasses at school; persevering when working with the therapy team to find the best switch for learning; working hard with confidence and enthusiasm at the start of the year; confidence and strong organisational skills; displaying increased confidence and engagement with environments and classmates 👏

Coming soon: Holi festival fun

Next Friday, 6 March, we have some volunteers coming in for a Narbethong Holi festival celebration.

Students will have the opportunity to hear a story, dance to real Indian music and make a mess with coloured powder (cornstarch based).

On Friday, please send your child to school in old clothes which you don't mind getting coloured powder on. If you have any old sheets which you can spare, please send them in to help us cover our powered wheelchairs.

Happy Holi everyone! 😁🎉🫟

I was so excited today to drop off $1,000 worth of Griffith Little Readers books to Narby Principal Karen. Head of Curriculum Angela has chosen books that support their students’ needs and will also have these translated into braille.

I am very proud to be personally funding $1,000 of readers available for each primary school in our area through my Griffith Little Readers program. 📚

This week we had our annual visit from the Bravehearts’ team including their lion cub mascot, Ditto 🦁 They delivered their Personal Safety Education Program, “Ditto Keep Safe Adventure”.

The session was engaging for all learners who attended. It included catchy songs and interactions with Ditto. The session explored safe and unsafe feelings and what to do to gain assistance.

This incursion plays an important part in the delivery of Respectful Relationships program taught across the school ✨

Earlier in the term, we attended the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) relaxed concert at Southbank as part of our wellbeing program and community partnership with QSO.

It was such a special event that included a picnic in the Southbank Parklands and a beautiful session with the orchestra. Learners connected with each other in the community and were then so engaged in the music 🍃🎼

We are so grateful for QSO and this partnership!
