As you may have heard, our wonderful Dr Lucinda has been given an exciting opportunity to move into integrative medicine full time at Young Street Medical starting in February.

Her dedication, passion, and caring approach to women’s health and long-term health issues have inspired many of the team and will certainly leave a lasting impact here.

We understand that many of you have built a connection with Dr Lucinda too and our practice remains committed to providing the same caring support you’ve come to know and trust.

If you’d like to see Dr Lucinda before she leaves, there are a limited number of appointment available next week which can be booked on HotDoc.

If you are a current patient of hers and aren’t sure which doctor to see next, our reception team can help guide you to another one of our GPs who might be a good fit for your needs.

Dr Lucinda, you will be missed, but we know you’ll do amazing things in your new role. It’s truly been a pleasure.

The next few weeks are shaping up to be busy, both in real life and at the practice, so if you think you might need to see a GP before Christmas - now’s a good time to get organised!

We have limited appointments over the holidays and while we’ll always do our best to help, we’re expecting a busy period.

So, to make sure you get the care you need:

- Submit routine requests online through HotDoc for things like repeat prescriptions, pathology or imaging forms, and specialist referrals. Give yourself plenty of time so we can get everything ready.

- Urgent requests? Submit them online via HotDoc and select the urgent option so your doctor knows to review it as soon as possible.

- Need to see a GP? Check HotDoc or call to find the next available appointment with your usual GP or another doctor - planning ahead is the best way to secure an appointment.

- Have your scripts, requests, or notes ready to help make your appointment run smoothly.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Kelvin Hon to the Village Practice Team!

Dr Kevin brings with him an abundance of knowledge and experience in Allergy & Immunology, and he can now offer treatments and allergy tests right here at our clinic.

He is happy to see our current patients, as well as new patients from other practices.

Referrals are not needed, but are always welcome.

From 1 November, as part of new funding changes under Medicare, two item numbers that supported GP-led mental health care consultations and Mental Health Care Plan reviews will be removed.

Mental health issues can be complex and often require ongoing support or longer appointments. These items have helped keep mental health care more affordable for many of our patients.

Previously, If your appointment involved mental health support, your doctor could bill Medicare directly using one of these Mental Health items, rather than charging you for a longer consultation or billing privately for both items.

This allowed them to take the extra time needed to support you without increasing your out-of-pocket cost.

With these item numbers removed, patients may face higher upfront or out-of-pocket costs for longer or more complex mental health appointments.

We understand this may make accessing care more challenging, and we share your concern.

If these changes affect you, please consider sharing your views with your local Member of Parliament or directly with Medicare.

We're thrilled to welcome the wonderful Dr Christina Mullany to the Village Practice team!

Dr Christina is a graduate of Wollongong University and is dedicated to the optimal care of her patients, empowering them to make informed healthcare decisions, prioritising autonomy and dignity at all times.

Appointments with Dr Christina will be available on Wednesdays. She has a special interest in children’s and women’s health and is passionate about supporting patients to achieve their health goals at every stage of their lives.

When not at work, Dr Christina is a keen mountain biker and runner who loves exploring our beautiful coastline, playing music with her husband, and spending time with her family.

We love Fridays at Village Practice!

This week we were lucky enough to have two lunchtime treats! Our lovely former registrar Dr Natasha Staude surprised us with a visit, and brought along her gorgeous baby girl! It was such a joy to see them both and of course, there were plenty of cuddles and smiles to go around.

To make the day even sweeter we shared some (very belated) birthday cake for two of our favourite people: our amazing Clinical Director Natalie who works SO hard behind the scenes, and also our fabulous receptionist Mel, whose Friday energy is absolutely infectious in the best way possible ♥️

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, we want to send love to every kind of mum in our community - biological, adoptive, step, foster, chosen family, and also anyone who holds that caring, nurturing role in someone’s life. However you mother, just know that you are seen, valued and appreciated 🫶🏻

Wishing everyone a safe and restful weekend - and hopefully also a little moment to be appreciated for all that you do too!
